Based on a story by Spielberg, the screenplay is by David Koepp, whose previous work with Spielberg includes the scripts for Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Combined, those films earned more than $3 billion worldwide. Koepp also wrote the script for this 2025’s Jurassic World Rebirth.

Gird your loins. 20th Century Studios has unveiled its first glimpse of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”

Almost twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel — Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine in the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation.

The film reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna, and introduces an all-new runway of characters including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles as “Lily” and “Irv” from the first film.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and McKenna. The film debuts exclusively in cinemas April 30, 2026.

There is something so satisfying about seeing films at your favourite local cinema. Having the parking situation wired, knowing the best room in the house and the best seat for the most involving sound and of course your favourite snack (in this case the hand dipped choc tops). So when the Dendy Coorparoo closed due to damage from the storm called Alfred, its reopening has been eagerly awaited. 

Now that the time has come to reopen, the first film off the rank was The Smashing Machine. This work, based on the real life exploits of first-generation UFC fighter Mark Kerr, stars Dwayne Johnson as Kerr and Emily Blunt as Kerr’s first wife, Dawn Staples. Both actors are stepping out of their comfort zone, with Johnson’s role being the biggest departure. The addition of a facial prosthesis helps with the transformation for Johnson.

Kerr was one of the first fighters in the full-contact sport arena to achieve star status, and his life was and is a rocky one. He struggled with substance abuse during the early years and is currently suffering from peripheral neuropathy. Johnson digs into the role and is quite effective at showing the man’s flaws without being completely consumed by them. His relationship with Blunt’s character on screen is a fractious one, and most of their scenes together crackle with tension.

This is by far Johnson’s biggest swing for recognition as an actual actor and not just a movie star, and he does a good job. His role is filled with quirky character traits that pull you into different mindsets about his performance, but the main take away is a demonstration of the successful expansion of his craft. Blunt is as always effective in every moment on screen. The story has an underlying theme of the brutality of this particular sport and the dedication it takes for its participants to excel in The Octagon. Even if you deplore pugilism, the performances are worthy of your exploration.

Into this somewhat split cinematic landscape comes The Fall Guy. This movie is silly, humorous and just plain fun. It’s also a real treat for fans of film with its references to classic movie lines and send-ups of Hollywood excess but its most endearing trait is just how good you feel watching it.

This is the best kind of escapist fare. The humour is there but the pacing never suffers from the build-up needed to land the big joke. Its laugh-out-loud moments are few but the smile never leaves your face the entire 126 minutes of running time. The casting is spot on and the on-screen chemistry between its two leads Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling successfully sells their relationship.

The film’s consistency is remarkable and director David Leitch (John Wick and Deadpool 2) shows his solid background in directing and stunt work. This is highlighted in the homage to stuntmen that plays over the end credits, it’s worth staying for. The Fall Guy is the kind of work you can recommend to just about anyone, even movie snobs stand a good chance of being won over.

This groundbreaking feat in blockbuster director David Leitch’s latest film surpassed the previous record held by stuntman Adam Kirley, who achieved seven cannon rolls during the filming of 2006’s Casino Royale.

The cannon roll, a classic stunt dating back to the early days of cinema, involves fitting a cannon-like apparatus beneath a car that shoots toward the ground. As the vehicle reaches a designated speed, the mechanism triggers and propels the car into a series of rolls. Holladay executed the stunt behind the wheel of a modified Jeep Grand Cherokee fitted with an external fiberglass body.

The Fall Guy, inspired by the 1980’s hit TV series of the same name, was shot in Sydney and is directed by filmmaker and former stunt performer Leitch, whose company, 87North Productions, is synonymous with adrenaline-fueled action in films such as Bullet Train, Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde.

The film, which stars Gosling as a stuntman and Emily Blunt as a film director, pays homage to the unsung heroes of the stunt community. Thus, the production prioritized practical stunts. “With The Fall Guy, I’m honoring my roots as a stunt performer,” Leitch says. “We wanted to deliver action that was true to the spirit of the stunt community by incorporating techniques that have become somewhat of a lost art.

The cannon roll is a classic stunt and was a must-have for this film. And since we were making a movie that honors the work of stunt performers, we didn’t just set out to achieve the cannon roll; we set out to break records and make a statement. Logan executed it flawlessly and showcased why he’s a standout in the stunt community.”
