Along the way, he crosses paths with a colourful cast of fellow travellers and locals, including Gia (Nicole Grimaudo), a spirited café owner who opens his eyes to new possibilities.

What begins as a solo adventure soon becomes a journey of self‑discovery, friendship and unexpected romance as Matt learns that sometimes life’s greatest stories start with a detour.

Two-time Academy Award® winner Renée Zellweger returns to the role that established a romantic-comedy heroine for the ages, a woman whose inimitable approach to life and love redefined an entire film genre.

Bridget Jones first blasted onto bookshelves in Helen Fielding’s literary phenomenon Bridget Jones’s Diary, which became a global bestseller and a blockbuster film. As a single career woman living in London, Bridget Jones not only introduced the world to her romantic adventures, but added “Singletons”, “Smug-Marrieds” and “f—wittage” into the global lexicon. Bridget’s ability to triumph despite adversity led her to finally marry top lawyer Mark Darcy and to become the mother of their baby boy. Happiness at last.

But in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Bridget is alone once again, widowed four years ago, when Mark was killed on a humanitarian mission in the Sudan. She’s now a single mother to nine-year-old Billy and four-year-old Mabel, and is stuck in a state of emotional limbo, raising her children with help from her loyal friends and even her former lover, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant).

Pressured by her Urban Family —Shazzer, Jude and Tom, her work colleague Miranda, her mother, and her gynecologist Dr. Rawlings (Oscar® winner Emma Thompson) — to forge a new path toward life and love, Bridget goes back to work and even tries out the dating apps, where she’s soon pursued by a dreamy and enthusiastic younger man (White Lotus’s Leo Woodall). Now juggling work, home and romance, Bridget grapples with the judgment of the perfect mums at school, worries about Billy as he struggles with the absence of his father, and engages in a series of awkward interactions with her son’s rational-to-a-fault science teacher (Oscar® nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor).

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Michael Morris (To Leslie, Better Call Saul), from a screenplay by BAFTA nominee Helen Fielding, based on her novel, with contributions from Emmy winner Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, Eric) and Oscar® nominee Dan Mazer (I Give it A Year, Bridget Jones’s Baby).

The film is produced for Working Title by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, whose films, including The Danish Girl, Darkest Hour, Fargo, Les Misérables and The Theory of Everything, among others, have earned 14 Academy Awards® and six Best Picture nominations. The film is also produced by Jo Wallett (Wicked Little Letters, Catherine Called Birdy). The film is executive produced by Amelia Granger and Sarah-Jane Wright for Working Title, Renée Zellweger and by Helen Fielding. Working Title has produced all the Bridget Jones films.

A Universal Pictures/Working Title film, with co-financing from Studiocanal and Miramax, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be released in cinemas internationally by Universal Pictures and will stream exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. The three previous Bridget Jones films—Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016)—have earned more than $800 million worldwide.

When Scarlett Johansson first read the script for Fly Me To The Moon it must have put a real smile on her face. In it, she gets all the good lines, gets all the laughs and ultimately gets to save the day. Oh, and she also gets her man. In this case, Cole Davis played by Magic Mike (Channing Tatum). Add some underhanded dealings by a shadow government operative named Moe Berkus played by a rubber-faced Woody Harrelson and you have all the ingredients for a cinematic good time.

Kelly Jones (Johansson) is a marketing and promotional genius from the Big Apple who plays fast and loose with the truth and is perfect for the job. After the tragic loss of the three astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee in a fire that happened during a training exercise, the race to the moon is lagging in popularity and it is Jones who is coerced into helping with lifting those sagging numbers.

She runs headlong in the the conservative ways of Launch Director Davis and most of the fireworks come from their emerging relationship. Watching these two movie stars riff off each other while being driven by a script that gives them plenty of ammunition is a joy to behold. As things progress you discover they both are harbouring events from their past that they need to overcome on their way to being happy.

When government man Berkus comes up with the crackpot idea of filming a fake version of the moon landing in case the actual one goes astray, it provides the circumstance for that moment of truth between the two main protagonists. For a space geek like myself, watching this generation’s version of His Girl Friday (the 1940 Howard Hawks screwball comedy) set during the race to the moon pays extra dividends. It’s also great to see the continuation of strong scripts written where women are the ones who get to swoop in and save the day.

If you are going to make a rom-com by the numbers, who better to slot in the leading roles than two charmers like George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Their appeal is pushed so far forward, that fans of the two are in for a real treat. For the rest, the film while holding no surprises has a professional standard that is extremely high.

The story is set in Bali and that beautiful land is utilised to the fullest. The scenery is stunning and the locals and their customs are absolutely endearing. Almost every frame could be blown up poster size and work in an upmarket travel agency. From sunrise to sunset, it’s all dazzling.

The story revolves around a dedicatedly divorced couple played by Clooney and Roberts. They race to the islands in hope of preventing the rushed marriage of their recent law school graduate daughter Lily (Kaitlyn Dever) and a local lad Gede (Maxime Bouttier). If that sounds familiar, is not a stretch.

It would seem churlish to not give in to all the scenic beauty and on-screen star power and be won over, even if only a little bit. Ticket To Paradise does indeed appeal by film’s end. It makes it quite easy for one to banish their cynical side and just enjoy the holiday from reality.

This spring, Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy.

From the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner (Billy on the Street, 2019’s The Lion King, Difficult People, Impeachment: American Crime Story) and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller (the Neighbors films, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Judd Apatow (The King of Staten Island, Trainwreck, The Big Sick), comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.

Starring Billy Eichner, the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio film—and featuring an entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast, including Luke Macfarlane (Killjoys), Ts Madison (The Ts Madison Experience), Monica Raymund (Chicago Fire), Guillermo Díaz (Scandal), Guy Branum (The Other Two) and Amanda Bearse (Married …with Children)—Bros is directed by Nicholas Stoller from his screenplay with Eichner. The film is produced by Judd Apatow, Stoller and Joshua Church (co-producer Trainwreck, Step Brothers) and is executive produced by Eichner.

Every time the Gregorian Calendar reaches this point in the year, the powers to be in Hollywood put their best thinking caps on and release films intended to be the perfect fodder for that date night of all date nights, Valentine’s Day. Some years the entries are dire and atrocious in every way but this year we find one format film that is a surprisingly easy one to digest.

If you’ve seen the trailer, you might already know the storyline. World-famous singer finds out on the eve of her televised wedding, that the intended has cheated on her with the lowly personal assistant. Her answer to this affront is to pick some random dude from the audience to complete the nuptials. Random dude being Owen Wilson and Jennifer Lopez being, well herself.

It unravels like a Jay Lo vanity project most of the time and Owen Wilson revisits a role he’s played way too many times already but these details don’t completely submerge the film’s charms. And while the cliches do add up, among them are quite a few moments of emotional resonance that ring true, and Lopez’s character has some lovely traits.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

While no punches are pulled getting you to love these people, it seems unfair, almost mean-spirited to not let a few of those choice moments of bliss get through. It’s more commerce than art but in that context, it doesn’t overstay its welcome and despite yourself, you will find the occasional smile on your lips.

We as audience members can forgive a large dose of the cliche if the entertainment level is high enough. And judging from the Australian Box Office juggernaut that is Crazy Rich Asians, we can forgive more that just the familiar.

This fish out of water tale follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as the woman with the humble background meeting the boyfriend Nick Young’s (Henry Golding) family for the first time. Nick has keep his family’s wealth and influence a secret. The family is of course opposed to the match, so the film finds its way to the inevitable conclusion is a very predictable way.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

This is not to say that the ride does not have it charms, the selling of the lifestyles of the rich and famous is entertaining in its opulence and excessiveness. As are the family cliches as they add up. It’s never challenging but provides solid and predictable fun.

When the class war subsides and Rachel has won over her most ardent opponent, Nick’s patriarchal mother Elanor (Michelle Yeoh) with an act of selflessness, you give in and go along even though you have that moment of expecting more. Reality has long ago left the building and what you are left with is frothy fun.
