Paul Rudd has always been that anomaly in the Marvel catalogue in that it is easier to see him as a comic presence rather than a heroic one and that continues this time around. That circumstance makes for the film’s most charming moments. Once things drop into the world of zeros and ones, it’s just a matter of business as usual.

The Ant-Man films have lived mostly outside the Avengers’ based chapters and Quantumania feels amongst the most separate. There are a few mentions, including a funny scene with M.O.D.O.K. (Corey Stoll) but it’s not until the final of the two crazy credits that things get pulled into the larger world of the MCU.

Much thought has gone into creating arresting visuals and inhabitants of the Quantum Realm and in that regard, it’s an impressive display. The storyline and the character arcs of its main players unfortunately form some of its least impressive attributes. It is still enjoyable but seems a minor pleasure compared to other outings in the world created by the late and great Stan Lee.

From the returning filmmaking team responsible for the 2018 global phenomenon, Halloween Kills is written by Scott Teems (SundanceTV’s Rectify) and Danny McBride and David Gordon Green based on characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. If there is a serial killer loose in your neighbourhood and you are a teenager, you really should know that if you have sex, smoke pot or run through the forrest, you are going to die. Add to the list being the small town cop and you know you are going to get bloody.

Now is this cinematic world or repeat mistakes, comes the latest reboot of the Halloween franchise. With the #metoo era paying dividends, it’s a refreshing change when the women are not just victims and this time they get to be the hero and just generally kick ass.

Jamie Lee Curtis returns after decades away and gets to… well you’ll just have to see the film to find out. Horror films are not often this funny, grisly or prone to making you yell warnings at people on the screen who are about to become body count. Please see this with someone you love and you most certainly will loose the circulation in the appendage that they hold on to.

Master of horror John Carpenter will executive produce and serve as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity).

Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.

Halloween will also be produced by Malek Akkad, whose Trancas International Films has produced the Halloween series since its inception, and Bill Block (Elysium, District 9). In addition to Carpenter and Curtis, Green and McBride will executive produce under their
Rough House Pictures banner.
