With magic at its core, all three of the works so far have been filled with wonderful creations, and the creatures of the title have run the gambit from cute and cuddly to quite menacing. There are scenes in The Secrets of Dumbledore that could be traumatic for the smallest members of the family so beware.

The previous success of the franchise has given the filmmakers the budget to fully realise their vision. The special effects both real and digital are impressive and they will fill the young ones with a sense of awe. The final battle between Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen) and Dumbledore (Jude Law) brings things to an exciting conclusion.

This latest chapter fits nicely with what has come before and adds to the strong catalogue. With an edge-of-your-seat sense of peril and imaginative expressions of magic, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore brings the trilogy to a rousing close. But then again if it makes big box office never say never.

Michael Fassbender does double duty this time out and his android character poses most of the film’s questions on life and the meaning of. Non existentialists need not fear for those with less interest in large degrees of depth, there is still plenty of inventive gore and enough scare tactics to keep most audience members on edge.

Picking up where Prometheus left off, Alien: Covenant works well as a stand alone film as it doesn’t add all that much to the alien mythology. Most audiences will already have a large degree of familiarity with the ongoing storyline so that helps to streamline things this time out.

Atmospheric, creepy and dark, Alien: Covenant is not easy viewing (for those that don’t like horror) but it does provide a right old fright night for those that do.

After escaping from incarceration the threat posed by Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) becomes a reality. Lines are drawn between the wizard world and that of the Muggles (non-magical humans). Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) is forced to choose sides and leaves his beloved creatures behind to get involved in the fracas.

This chapters pays real dividends to fans of the Harry Potter franchise as the two storylines begin to show more of a connection. This time out even includes a visit to Hogwarts. You also get to spend time with a young Albus Dumbledore, this time played by Jude Law.

This is a film that has a lot of characters and takes some concentration to keep track of who does what and what they mean to each other. It’s worth the effort however as the combination of amazing visuals and involved storyline leaves you with powerful memories.
