Universal Pictures is proud to release a new original event film created and directed by Steven Spielberg. The film stars SAG winner and Oscar® nominee Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer, A Quiet Place), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown), Oscar® winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, Kingsman franchise), Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters, The Perfect Couple) and two-time Oscar® nominee Colman Domingo (Sing Sing, Rustin).

Based on a story by Spielberg, the screenplay is by David Koepp, whose previous work with Spielberg includes the scripts for Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Combined, those films earned more than $3 billion worldwide. Koepp also wrote the script for this 2025’s Jurassic World Rebirth.

Disclosure Day is produced by five-time Academy Award® nominee Kristie Macosko Krieger (The Fabelmans, West Side Story) and by Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment. The executive producers are Adam Somner and Chris Brigham.

Steven Spielberg is one of the industry’s most successful and influential filmmakers. The top-grossing director of all time, Spielberg has helmed such blockbusters as Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones franchise and Jurassic Park.

Among his myriad honors, he is a three-time Academy Award® winner, including Oscars® for Best Director and Best Picture for Schindler’s List, which received a total of seven Oscars®, and for Best Director for Saving Private Ryan. His most recent film, The Fabelmans, was released by Universal in 2022 and received seven Academy Award® nominations, including for Directing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Picture.

The Fabelmans Movie Review

Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans juxtaposes some stellar performances with a rather pedestrian take on his earlier years. It raises many questions about what was fiction and what actually happened in the life of one of the world’s most successful populist filmmakers.

The story begins in a New Jersey cinema where a very young Sammy Fabelman (Mateo Zoryan) experiences his first big screen film and it’s a life-changing event. His parents’ father Burt (Paul Dano) and mother Mitzi (Michelle Williams) are doing their best to help their young son cope with the anxieties of his youth.

As we transition to an older Sammy now played by Gabriel LaBelle, we see his progress as an aspiring auteur. At this point in the film, it becomes a fairly predictable outcast teen story. The scenes of his early attempts at filmmaking are easily the most interesting parts on display during this time.

What provides the most assertive qualities of the film are the acting chops displayed by Paul Dano as the uptight genius father and Michelle Williams’ luminous performance as Sam’s free-spirited mother. She fills every scene with a myriad of believable emotions. She really is outstanding. The joys of watching this level of craft far outweigh the deficiencies found in the script.

The Walt Disney Company has released a new “sneak peek” at Academy Award®-winning director Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of the musical “West Side Story,” which will open in Australian cinemas Boxing Day, 2021.

Directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner, “West Side Story” tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. This reimagining of the beloved musical stars Ansel Elgort (Tony); Ariana DeBose (Anita); David Alvarez (Bernardo); Mike Faist (Riff); Brian d’Arcy James (Officer Krupke); Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank); Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino); with Rita Moreno (as Valentina, who owns the corner store in which Tony works); and introducing Rachel Zegler (Maria.) Moreno – one of only three artists to be honored with Academy®, Emmy®, GRAMMY®, Tony® and Peabody Awards – also serves as one of the film’s executive producers.

Bringing together the best of both Broadway and Hollywood, the film’s creative team includes Kushner, who also served as an executive producer; Tony Award® winner Justin Peck, who choreographed the musical numbers in the film; renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor and GRAMMY Award® winner Gustavo Dudamel, who helmed the recording of the iconic score; Academy Award®-nominated composer and conductor David Newman (“Anastasia”), who arranged the score, Tony Award®-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (“Fun Home,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie”), who supervised the cast on vocals; and GRAMMY®-nominated music supervisor Matt Sullivan (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Chicago”), who serves as executive music producer for the film.

Retro Movie Review – Bridge Of Spies

Tom Hanks continues his transition from being a movie star into a great character actor with his solid performance in Bridge Of Spies. The film takes a liberal view of the actual facts but nonetheless is very effective at establishing the tone of the times.

Based in the murky waters of the shadowy world of espionage back in the late fifties, the film does an admirable job of keeping the audience in the know. There was such a litany of enemies (both real and perceived) of the American way of life presented back then that the story could have easily diffused into myopic rubbish. It steers mostly clear of easy slogans.

Hanks plays super hostage negotiator James B. Donovan as he tries to trade a Russia spy to secure the release of Gary Powers, the pilot whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. It’s to Donovan integrity and force of will that he also secures the release of an American student caught in the cross hairs during the erection of the Berlin wall between the East and West.

Director Steven Spielberg keeps his proclivity for emotional overstatement to a minimum and takes full advantage of a sharp screenplay by Matt Charman and the brothers Coen, Ethan and Joel. The film holds your attention and keeps you on the edge of your seat until its conclusion.

See the Future in a New Ready Player One Featurette!

When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

The Post Movie Review

From its high powered cast (director Steven Spielberg has a rolodex that runs deep) to its high powered story, The Post is a film from its time for our time. The relevance it shares with events of today is strong and the film’s dramatic structure plays out like a great conspiracy theory drama. This time it’s the US government telling the big lie.

Tom Hanks has never been better and his visually advancing age and gruff vocal delivery helps one to see him as less of a nice guy and more as a down and dirty fighter. There are great performances everywhere, though. Even the sadly under-utilised Sarah Paulson has a short but very impactful monologue that gives the film even more purpose to the slowly awakening world of women’s rightful place in society. It also highlights Spielberg’s not so hidden agenda.

If Hollywood has truly turned the corner on its solid past, then films like this with an overt message might become the norm. If the future holds drama of this caliber, then bring it on, because a message is always more impactful when it’s delivered with this level of commitment and craft.

Look at The Post as drama of the highest order first and message cinema second. And it’s not really giving anything away but Spielberg being Spielberg can’t help himself with a coda that reinforces his message at film’s end but this time out it’s a fantastic one.
