Jessica Henwick (TV’s “Iron Fist”, “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”) plays the hacker Bugs, the proverbial white rabbit on a mission to discover the one who sacrificed himself for humankind–and willing to take any risk necessary in search of the legend she idolizes.

Jonathan Groff (“Hamilton”, TV’s “Mindhunter”), plays Thomas Anderson’s business partner, a slick, confident corporate type with insouciant charm, a disarming smile and an eye on the bottom line–everything Mr. Anderson is not. Neil Patrick Harris (“Gone Girl”) plays Thomas’ therapist, working closely with his patient to understand the meaning behind his dreams and to distinguish them from reality.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas (TV’s “Quantico”) plays a young woman with a wisdom that belies her years and an ability to see the truth, no matter how murky the waters. And Jada Pinkett Smith (“Angel Has Fallen”, TV’s “Gotham”) returns as Niobe, the fierce General who once fought for the survival of Zion and who now sees to the welfare of her people with a familiar fire in her eyes, despite a sense of disbelief and suspicion upon Neo’s return.

Lana Wachowski directed from a screenplay by Wachowski & David Mitchell & Aleksandar Hemon, based on characters created by The Wachowskis. There are not a lot of surprises in store via the script but what they get just right is the chemistry between the four friends and how shared time together actually does build a bond that can transcend time. The humour runs the gambit from adult humour to juvenile shenanigans that are every bit as childish as dude road movie’s stock in trade.

Friends getting back together after life has driven them apart is a tale often told on screen but there is a genuine nature at work here that helps you get past the cliches. Main players Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith are well chosen and it’s great that they each have a unique look and different body type, no cookie cutter female leads here.

Girls trip is the kind of film critics often times hate but audiences love and it makes one wonder how different that reception would be if it was an all male cast. Viva la difference.

It’s all up to GB once again to save God, no I mean Morgan Freeman from harms way. The first threat upon the US President’s life is a drone attack that is staged in a most impressive way with the flying bombs clustering together like a swarm of angry bees. This is just the start of the action.

The attack is blamed on Butler’s character, Secret Service agent Mike Banning who is assigned to the President’s security detail and so he goes on the run to clear his name. The film has so few surprises (other than some interesting casting choices) and the good guys and bad guys are so transparent, you dispense with the story altogether and just enjoy the show.

Things get blown up (an entire wing of a hospital) shot at (just about everybody) and crashed into and it all makes very little sense. It’s just unadulterated action and the brain disconnects is most enjoyable way. Serious? No. Serious fun? Most definitely.
