War Dogs Movie Review
When casting this story, one that is based on true events, the filmmakers followed the tradition of the funny man and straight guy. No guesses needed to know whom Jonah Hill and Miles Teller end up playing. Hill in particular, returns to a role we’ve seen numerous times before and the unfortunate result is the film ends up playing out like a poor man’s version of The Wolf Of Wall Street.
There are moments of true humour and more than a few situations that are extremely scary but the ...
Kubo an the Two Strings Movie Review
The film uses stop motion animation (with one of the techniques cleverly shown in the end credits), CGI and what one might possibly imagine is hand drawn imagery and looks fantastic. Voiced by an A-list of vocal talent that includes Charlize Theron, Ralph Fiennes and Matthew (put down those bongos) McConaughey, they are given rich text to work with.
The story is an out right fantasy voyage and while this is a genre whose charms often elude, this is so inventively accomplished, it draws ...
Australiens Movie Review
So it falls upon Andi, her absent band mate (director, Jo Bauer), their bouncer (Lawrence Silver), their bored videographer (Tamara McLaughlin) and her geekish brother (Doug Hatch) to save the world… sorry… Australia (except Tasmania) from the alien onslaught. Low budget hijinks ensue.
Tim Burton's Mars Attacks did the cheap sci-fi spoof for $80M back in 1996. As Dolly Parton once said, "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap."
It's a shame Brisbane director/writer, Joe Bauer, ...
Sausage Party Movie Review
It is so surprisingly crude, crass, creative, outrageous and funny, it is literally like nothing you have ever experienced before. It will also provide a great test to see how easily you are offended. It pushes things so far, it becomes a new paradigm. Its R rated status is complete vindicated and I would have loved to have ease dropped on the conversation of explanation between the father and his very young son that I saw attending the preview screening.

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie – Movie Review
The film’s numerous faults mostly lie in the script. It’s so by the numbers, it seem Saunders wrote it in her sleep. But this misses the film’s main appeal, that of getting to hang out with Eddy and Patsy again. Saunders’ success in roping in most of the original actors from the multiple seasons of the television show also adds to the appeal. The well-chosen cameos are just icing on the cake.

Ghostbusters Movie Review
So, naturally, my expectations for this reboot(?) were not high. I was hoping for something fun but not necessarily mind blowing and this is pretty much what Ghostbusters 2016 is.

The strength of the new Ghostbusters is in its principal female cast - Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. The women have great chemistry; they form a funny and sassy team and this experiment to flip the gender of the principals is largely successful. It's certainly a better idea ...
Star Trek Beyond Movie Review
The film starts with a very mellon collie scene when Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) laments his life out in the cosmos as lacking the adrenaline rush on earlier times. His complaints are soon answered as the film ramps up the deeds of daring. The main protagonist this time out is Krall played by a heavily made up Idris Elba. His baddie role is a menacing one but lacks explanation.
It’s interesting that the film really suffers from the in-cinema 3D effect as the heavily CGI crated scenes are ...
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Movie Review
Pitch Perfect alumni Adam Devine and Anna Kendrick return as part of a brother’s team (Devine and Zac Efron) and sisters from different mothers team (Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza). In somewhat of a departure, it’s the ladies that are the real hustlers this time out and seeing their transformation from bad to good, forms the film’s moral backbone. Pokemon Go

Sing Street Movie Review
The songs his band (made up of school mates) come up with are classics in encapsulating the musical trends of the moment. In this context you are never disappointed at the stops the band arrives at or the resultant hairstyle, Robert Smith I’m looking at you. Add in some teenage love angst and you have an all round good time. Pokemon Go
The film pivots around its musical numbers and here casting someone who can actually sing and play gives the proceedings a realistic edge sadly missing ...
The BFG Movie Review
My only experience of a ‘BFG’ was the BFG9000, a weapon found in the Doom and Quake video games using an acronym that implied words that ought not be uttered by a child. Given Roald Dahl's twisted mind, I would be unsurprised to learn that he was well aware of this possible interpretation when he released his book about a ‘Big Friendly Giant’ in 1982.
An animated TV version of The BFG was released in the late 80's but this time around Steven Spielberg has turned his acumen to a ...
