Last week, Tracee Ellis Ross debuted “Love Myself” on Instagram Live to fans and friends including, Michelle Obama, Janelle Monáe, Lena Waithe, Sarah Paulson, Kerry Washington and her incredible mother Diana Ross.

Written by Australian Sarah Aarons [Alessia Cara, John Legend, Khalid] and Greg Kurstin [Paul McCartney, P!nk, Céline Dion], “Love Myself” is a pivotal song in the movie performed by Tracee Ellis Ross as “Grace Davis.” This notably marks the first time the actress has released a song, which highlights her dynamic voice as “Grace Davis” and sets the stage for both the record and the upcoming film.

Produced by GRAMMY® Award-winner Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins [Michael Jackson, Beyoncé], the 15-song Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features new recordings by cast members Ross and Kelvin Harrison, Jr. Beyond “Love Myself,” Ross delivers stunning performances of “Bad Girl,” “Stop For A Minute,” “New To Me,” and a duet with Harrison, Jr. on “Like I Do.” Additionally, classics from Donny Hathaway, Maxine Brown, and Aretha Franklin as well as the single “Mind Over Matter” by Anthony Ramos round out the tracklisting.

The High Note, coming to Australian cinema soon, is set in the dazzling world of the LA music scene comes the story of Grace Davis (Tracee Ellis Ross), a superstar whose talent, and ego, have reached unbelievable heights, and Maggie (Dakota Johnson), her overworked personal assistant. While stuck running errands, Maggie still aspires to her childhood dream of becoming a music producer. When Grace’s manager (Ice Cube) presents her with a choice that could alter the course of her career, Maggie and Grace come up with a plan that could change their lives forever.

‘’Leaving Home’ was kind of the first song I wrote for my album THE NOMAD back in 2015. I was in a bit of shock when my marriage ended earlier that year and this song reflects that disbelief. Facing this new reality was strange and difficult and yet I realise it happens to many people all the time. When I spoke with Zac about doing a clip his idea was to incorporate other people’s experiences of losing relationships and treat mine as just a part of the bigger picture. Still for it to remain personal for me but not to have all the focus on me. I really liked Zac’s idea of setting this in a bar where we see a collection of random people having very different but similarly painful experiences. We never really know when we meet someone what’s going on for them personally. We also never know what’s going to appear round the next corner’ says Guy Pearce.

Screening of the music videos will be accompanied by an enlightening ‘In Conversation’ discussion to find out how these unreleased clips were created, including Q+As with a number of the talented filmmakers and artists themselves. Following the screenings is a networking happy hour in the iconic Golden Age Bar with special discounted drinks courtesy of Mountain Goat. RVG – Romy Vager (vocals, guitar), Reuben Bloxham (guitar), Angus Belle (bass), Marc Nolte (drums), known less formally as the Romy Vager Group – deliver a refreshing kind of honesty and intelligence that you don’t hear in your everyday garage band. Hailing from Melbourne’s northern suburbs, they released their acclaimed debut album A Quality of Mercy in 2017 which was self-recorded live off the floor at The Tote. The eight songs on A Quality of Mercy traverse through the myth of the tortured artist, the isolation of being trans, falling in love with a computer and the feeling of awaiting your fate on death row. Each song is played with wit, compassion and commitment, evident in singer Romy’s delivery, her “fierceness, her flow, and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows” (The Guardian).

They four-piece signed with Our Golden Friend / Island Records who re-released their album in October, which led into a much-hyped BIGSOUND set and four nominations at The Age Music Victoria Awards – for Best Album, Best Song, Best Band and Best Emerging Act. RVG have since signed with Isla Angus at ATC Live for bookings in the UK/EU and Lucy Beach at Paradigm for North America, and are touring the UK and Europe this May with UK band Shame.
