Tightly wound (and rather deadly) accountant Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) and his alpha-male brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) do all the heavy lifting and provide the film with its best moments. They fight like only brothers can and then kick butt like only cinematic bad boys can and it’s a blast to behold.

Their slowly developing relationship provides a few touching moments and their general way with each other is played mostly for laughs. A lot of the gags hit the mark. The story as it is revolves around a missing child. The context of that situation and the details add a bit of interest but its finer points are murky at best.

This lack of a scintillating storyline matters little when there are so many humorous moments to stitch things together. The pace is fast and there is very little downtime. The Accountant 2 sees the filmmakers lean heavily into the comic realm and it’s a successful strategy.

The Accountant 2, the sequel to the 2016 hit The Accountant, reunites director Gavin O’Connor, screenwriter Bill Dubuque, producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams, and stars Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and J.K. Simmons. The film also stars Daniella Pineda and Allison Robertson.

Affleck is also a producer on The Accountant 2. O’Connor, Scott LaStaiti, Jamie Patricof, Matt Damon, Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran, Dani Bernfeld and Alison Winter served as executive producers.

Behind the camera, O’Connor collaborated with director of photography Seamus McGarvey, production designer Jade Healy, editor Richard Pearson, and costume designer Isis Mussenden. The music is by Bryce Dessner.

Signing off the last edition of the most recent trilogy in style, Dominion gets the whole gang back together to join in on the fun and much amusement ensues. The return of Sam Neill and Laura Dern plays out most entertainingly and Jeff Goldblum gets to riff as only he can.

The dinosaurs that escaped at the end of Fallen Kingdom have now inhabited the entire planet and the humans have a real problem on their hands. An evil CEO Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott) manipulating things behind the scenes only exacerbates the problems.

While it can be silly and predictable and often returns to themes featured in all the other films this does little to diminish the excitement. It’s tense and engaging stuff and the 146-minute running time flies by. See it with the entire family but be prepared to comfort the young children afterwards.
