With the world redefining what artificial intelligence means on a daily basis, we need an alternative version of the future like M3GAN 2.0. With great peril also comes great laughter and this insight to future events suggests we will be just fine. Secretive agencies, greedy industrialists and empty ideologists would never let us be ploughed asunder, right?

We can however rely on a kung fu fighting robot to save the day and have Director/writer Gerard Johnstone and his cohorts throw absolutely everything in the pot in an attempt to entertain us. Sensory overload or the proper proportion of mayhem for the ADD generation? Only you can decide.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

The storyline as convoluted as it is revolves around the original M3GAN robot not really being completely destroyed and her CPU or central processing unit still existing in one form or another. From this point forward none of it really makes any sense, so you are forced to just go along with this occasionally bumpy ride.

When all is said and done and the crazy coagulates in your grey matter, you are left with quite a few what the f moments. Getting there has its fun moments but the lasting impression is that the possible evil that exists in movie madmen in regards to world domination has resulted in more hilarity than hazard.

The original creative team behind that phenomenon—led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone—reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0.

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.

Directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone, the film co-stars returning cast members Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s loyal tech teammates, Cole and Tess, and new characters played by Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live, Hacks), Timm Sharp (Apples Never Fall, Percy Jackson and the Olympians) and Grammy winner and 11-time Emmy nominee Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Way of Water, What We Do in the Shadows).

Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and Allison Williams, the film is executive produced by Gerard Johnstone, Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Mark D. Katchur.

The first M3GAN film shattered box office records, opening to $30.4 million domestically to become the biggest opening weekend for a PG-13 horror.

Starring Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Amie Donald, Jenna Davis, Ivanna Sakhno, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, Jemaine Clement, M3GAN 2.0 will be released in Aussie cinemas June 26!

Oh to live the life of a suburban vampire. What We Do in the Shadows is a great example of a film that features clever ideas, a budget that forces the filmmaker to work more on characterization and be less reliant on special effects and relies on just about perfect casting.

Flight Of The Concords alumni Jemaine Clement as the vampire Vladislav and Rhys Darby as the werewolf Anton deliver their usual understated take on comedy, as does the rest of the cast. This is a film that is constantly amusing but not necessarily laugh out loud funny at all times. It does however have a few big laugh moments and this night’s audience was demonstrative in their approval.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

There are so many everyday life activities that the undead would experience if they lived normal lives in suburbia and this film covers an amusing number of those topics. This includes the police dropping in for a visit, going out for a drink (of the non-blood type) and walking down dark roads where you are the hunter not necessarily the hunter.

With vampires of all types still being such a commercial commodity, it was almost inevitable that someone would come up with an idea of this sort. It’s a testament to the writers, actors and director that they have succeeded so admirable in adding something worthwhile to this already crowded genre.

I’m almost a complete noob when it comes to Roald Dahl. I didn’t experience a Dahl childhood; his literature did not have a presence in our household. My only experience of his work was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) which I loved, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) for which he wrote the screenplay and which I liked much less.

My only experience of a ‘BFG’ was the BFG9000, a weapon found in the Doom and Quake video games using an acronym that implied words that ought not be uttered by a child. Given Roald Dahl’s twisted mind, I would be unsurprised to learn that he was well aware of this possible interpretation when he released his book about a ‘Big Friendly Giant’ in 1982.

An animated TV version of The BFG was released in the late 80’s but this time around Steven Spielberg has turned his acumen to a live action version starring the remarkable Ruby Barnhill as orphan child, Sophie, who befriends the ‘BFG’, a motion captured computer generated Mark Rylance.

Given his sterling performance in Bridge of Spies, Rylance appears to be becoming a male muse, of sorts, to Spielberg and understandably so. His performance in The BFG is as measured and understated as Spielberg’s prior spy biopic. Newcomer, Ruby Barnhill, is also a revelation, displaying a manner of non-precocious confidence and sass rarely found in a child actor.

Spielberg has produced a film that, while set in the early eighties, drips with Dickensian charm. It’s an old-fashioned kind of movie that is rarely made these days. Its soft, warm, studio-shot look comforts the viewer and harks of family movies made in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s a gentle reprieve from the harsh reality penchant of modern cinema.

The detail in the CGI giants is very very good. The close ups of skin tones and textures is amazing. Equally amazing is that, as good as the CGI is, it still looks like CGI. While we would consider this CGI to be ‘photographic’, it’s clear we still have some way to go before it is truly photographic. This is neither here nor there as it relates to the story, however. When the chips are down, story matters, CGI doesn’t. But nonetheless, the computer imagery here is cutting edge.

The BFG is worthwhile entertainment and not just for kids. Adults and children alike will be swept away by this Spielberg/Dahl fantasy that is cute, charming and contains one of the best fart jokes in recent memory.
