Organised by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, (LACMA), in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, this is the first major Australian exhibition to explore McQueen’s thought-provoking and singular viewpoint. Art @ Portside, curated by the Kairos Project, will feature a vibrant line-up of more than xx pieces of work by internationally renowned artists and photographers, which will rotate monthly to showcase new artwork for visitors to enjoy.
Live drawing and painting demonstrations will also be hosted weekly by one of the installation’s star-studded artists in residence, including Garry Dolan, Rob Rek (and his pet macaw, Manco), and Aboriginal artist Louise Numina....
In Queer Time is coming to GOMA this August
The program brings together a selection of films which delve into these three areas. The first key reoccurring theme in the program is notions of family time, both biological and chosen. Woven throughout some of the films are the complicated relationships between queerness and motherhood. In some examples we encounter tense, complex and traumatic depictions of motherhood. Natalya Hughes’s The Interior Exhibition
Interested in the role of women and their historical absence from positions of power, the part-professional part-domestic setting conjured by The Interior plays with gendered power dynamics between public and private space. The couches that dot the gallery take their lush contours from the shapes of the female body, and their detailed upholstery sees motifs of eyes, rats, and snakes from Freud’s patient case studies ripple over the space in fleshy tones.
Women Make Film – A New Road Movie Through Cinema is screening at GOMA this month!
