After my last pink outing and movie review of Barbie at the Dendy Powerhouse, when Modmove’s editor asked me to review the upcoming screening of Mean Girls, I only had one question, how many Schmackos do I get in payment? With his overabundant offer accepted, I donned my best pink accessory and got ready to trip the light fantastic.

My pawrents did their best to contain my excitement but with so many other doggies going to be there, I knew I would meet a few to crush on and boy I wasn’t disappointed. The crushing onscreen almost rivalled my unbridled passion to sniff as many unique scents as I could, If you know what I mean?

The action and songs on-screen reminded me that every species has an intended pecking order, the cute ones will always try to rule the roost and use their looks in every way possible. I know this approach well from manipulating my pawrents affections to get unlimited toys and treats. But a girl can still learn and I paid attention and got some excellent new tips.

Enjoying the cinema outdoors is the best and the rain held out long enough to enjoy the entire night. My main movie ladies learned their lessons the hard way and became better people because of it and I fell in love with some rather handsome and beautiful creatures. I think my humans enjoyed themselves as well as they kept making goo-goo eyes at each other all night.

The Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Theatre with have their next dog-friendly screening of the film Strays on Sunday March 10. Info at: www.powerhouse.dendy.com.au

As a visit to the past, this one is a bit of a novelty. Twenty years after the original film, Mean Girls the redux shows high school to still be the battleground that it was those decades ago. The hierarchy of cool is intact and the lines are drawn. While adding the ammunition of song to the mix just fuels the fun and adds a unique touch to the original.

Starting with an almost word for word recreation of the original film, when the first musical number arrives it reminds you that this version is something new. The voices behind those songs are average at best but this does well to sell the illusion that these are high-school kids not professional singers. The lyrical content is also believable.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

Foreigner Julia Ormond as Magda is married to Stefan (Vincent Perez) and together they form an unusually equal union. Lisa (Angourie Rice) is just discovering herself as she strives to free herself from the life her mother (Susie Porter) has of servitude to an unappreciative husband played by Shane Jacobson. Rachael Taylor as Fay is distancing herself from Australian men and their boorish behaviour by dating Rudi (Ryan Corr) an immigrant with old world charm.

These women and their life stories are told with little judgement but as a direct sign of the times. In some ways it shows how far things have come but in others how little has actually changed.
