Mo’Ju is thrilled to announce their fourth studio LP, ‘Oro, Plata, Mata’ due for release on March 24th, 2023 via Virgin Music.
‘Oro, Plata, Mata’ see’s Mo’Ju explore a myriad of themes and experiences anchored by a direct homage to Mo’Ju’s late Tito (uncle) Peque Gallaga; the album’s title references Oro, Plata, Mata, a 1982 historical war drama Gallaga directed.
The inability to categorise where an artist such as Mo’Ju fits has been a common narrative throughout their career. However, the musician, songwriter, storyteller and third culture kid (Filipino/Wiradjuri), is not here to be boxed in and commodified. Their music is created in alignment with a central artistic vision that is built on truth, authenticity and most importantly, legacy.
Their new single ‘Money’ (out via Virgin music on January 20th, 2023), kicks off what is set to be another stellar year for the Naarm-based artist.
“I’ve been reflecting on capitalism and the way at times I’ve felt like a captive of it, but simultaneously, I’ve been totally complicit in it. It’s about the constant hustle and the way it undermines the things in life that are actually important.”
Mo’Ju will be presenting two special evenings that will see them joined on stage by the ethereal sounds of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Opera House for an exclusive show for Sydney World Pride. Before heading to VIC for another special one-off that sees Mo’Ju partner with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for an evening at Hamer Hall.
“I will be playing this entire album, start to finish with both the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras. There will be a bit of a retrospective of my work over the last 10 years as well – I will be touching on something from every record I’ve made. BUT the thing I am excited about most of all, is having the opportunity to present this whole album to an audience with both orchestras… This the very first time anyone will hear this album, not just live, but before the record even drops. I’m so excited that people will hear it like this and hopefully have the memory forever. That doesn’t happen every day.”
