The second feature by Iranian filmmaker Vahid Jalilvand (Wednesday, May 9, SFF 2016) centres on Dr. Kaveh Nariman, an extremely rigorous forensic doctor. While driving home at night, Nariman knocks over a motorcycle carrying a family of four. Eight year-old Amir Ali seems to only be suffering a mild concussion, and no report is made.
Two days later, the boy is brought to the morgue where Nariman works. In expertly crafted scenes, Nariman’s personal and professional worlds begin to close in around him.
This superbly acted drama is about much more than medical forensics: Jalilvand and co-writer Ali Zarnegar place a microscope on class conflict in contemporary Iran and the relationship between modern and traditional justice.
