There is no guide book to rock ‘n’ roll!
Australian documentary filmed over 10 years, MEAL TICKETS is a cautionary tale of life in the world of modern day rock ‘n’ roll, and its realities vs its aspirations. Director Mat de Koning captures the rollercoaster journey of a young Perth band, the Screwtop Detonators, their manager Dave Kavanagh (an ex-mentor to The Libertines) and their one-time roadie, Will Stoker. Initially ambitious and eager for fame and fortune, their aspirations change over time as they discover the depth of the struggle and sacrifice required to make it in the music industry.
“On the surface, Meal Tickets is a primer on the music industry’s evolution, but beneath the lure of stardom it draws on the struggle young men have to define the place in life…”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD
“It’s intoxicating, I felt like I was living it.”
ROBERT CONNELLY
“…when dreams maybe don’t become a reality. A very universal story in the music world. It really questions the idea of success, and what defines success.”
MYF WARHURST
“[Meal Tickets] is more than “just” sex, drugs and rock’n’roll – the film explores mateship, masculinity and growing up.”
