In the sequel to DreamWorks Animation’s Oscar®-nominated blockbuster comedy, the Templeton brothers—Tim (James Marsden, X-Menfranchise) and his Boss Baby little bro Ted (Alec Baldwin)—have become adults and drifted away from each other. Tim is now a married stay-at-home dad. Ted is a hedge fund CEO. But a new boss baby with a cutting-edge approach and a can-do attitude is about to bring them together again … and inspire a new family business.

Tim and his wife, Carol (Eva Longoria), the breadwinner of the family, live in the suburbs with their super-smart 7-year-old daughter Tabitha (Ariana Greenblatt, Avengers: Infinity War), and adorable new infant Tina (Amy Sedaris, Netflix’s BoJack Horseman). Tabitha, who’s at the top her class at the prestigious Acorn Center for Advanced Childhood, idolizes her Uncle Ted and wants to become like him, but Tim, still in touch with his overactive youthful imagination, worries that she’s working too hard and is missing out on a normal childhood. When baby Tina reveals that she’s—ta-da!—a top secret agent for BabyCorp on a mission to uncover the dark secrets behind Tabitha’s school and its mysterious founder, Dr. Edwin Armstrong (Jeff Goldblum), it will reunite the Templeton brothers in unexpected ways, lead them to re-evaluate the meaning of family and discover what truly matters.

Working a warning message about global warming into a kid’s film is not as outlandish of an idea as it may seem. With the healthy turnout of all ages to the protests around the globe, it’s an idea of relevance. Arctic Justice wears that message on its sleeve but frames it in a very child like environment.

Jeremy Renner does the voice of Swifty, an Arctic Fox trying to be a big dog.

The dialogue is rather simplistic and the situations are not overly complicated. It’s presented as a quant and easily digestible story and there is an absent of the adult innuendo that marks most current animated movies. It direction is decidedly towards the young.

A bit slow at first, it hits its stride in the second half. This correlates with the film’s most interesting character, Otto Von Walrus, a half robot, half walrus creature voiced by John Cleese. He is also the big bad. There is little sophistication in the final message of believing in one’s self and looking after your surrounds but that only enhances its value as entertainment for the young.

Spike Lee is back to his best. There is a fire and passion of message that heralds the firebrand’s return to the forefront of protest cinema. This time the simple message of some of his earlier works is flushed out with the complexity of issues in this day and age.

He uses language and profanity with savage intent and it brings the viewer to the very edge of comfort and often times over it. His message is also so heavy, that without the humour and human connection of some of the characters, it would overpower. As it is, it burns its way into your memory cells.

The story of a black police detective that is invited to join the Ku Klux Klan is based on the autobiographical book Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth and its truths are so outrageous, that it reads like it could only be a wild flight of fancy from an over caffeinated Hollywood writer. That it is true, only adds to its impact.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

Spike does entertain you throughout BlacKkKlansman but finishes the film with live footage that not only overwhelms you but also saddens with the realisation of how little progress we humans have made in the last few decades. It’s a full frontal assault on the Cheetos Jesus and his base appeal and it pulls no punches.

What exposition there is revolves around saving the world from nuclear terrorist attacks and rouge ex-secret agents. There are a few twists that are easy to see through and some fairly transparent bad guys but his does little to dampen the fun. The entertainment value comes from the unbelievable action and minimum use of computer generated imagery.

Some of Tom Cruise’s films appeal to the mind, this latest edition of Mission Impossible will appeal to those with an extravagant sense of adventure. The stunts are huge and obviously dangerous and there is little to get in the way of this scenario as the film launches from amazing action piece to an even more amazing action piece. The pace is relentless.
