As the story of Blink Twice plays out, it becomes obvious that first-time film director and writer Zoë Kravitz knows her craft. The film is such an assured work, it’s hard to believe that this is her first full-length film project. The crew collected for this endeavour is also exemplary and special mention should be made of the sound design by Jon Flores. His use of silence is very impactful.

Frida (Naomi Ackie) and her gal pal Jess (Alia Shawkat) are two young ladies trying to make ends meet. When they get a job hostessing at a fundraising gala they come in contact with Slater King (Channing Tatum). The tech billionaire is fighting the cancel culture after a transgression that is never fully explained and the fundraiser is part of his road back. After their paths cross, King invites them to his island for a weekend of excess.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

She runs headlong in the the conservative ways of Launch Director Davis and most of the fireworks come from their emerging relationship. Watching these two movie stars riff off each other while being driven by a script that gives them plenty of ammunition is a joy to behold. As things progress you discover they both are harbouring events from their past that they need to overcome on their way to being happy.

When government man Berkus comes up with the crackpot idea of filming a fake version of the moon landing in case the actual one goes astray, it provides the circumstance for that moment of truth between the two main protagonists. For a space geek like myself, watching this generation’s version of His Girl Friday (the 1940 Howard Hawks screwball comedy) set during the race to the moon pays extra dividends. It’s also great to see the continuation of strong scripts written where women are the ones who get to swoop in and save the day.

Starting with a rags-to-riches premise that is silly in the extreme, Magic Mike’s Last Dance finds our favourite stripper scoped up from his bartending gig to live the good life over in jolly old England. The pandemic has led to the failure of his furniture business and his chance meeting with Maxandra Mendoza (Salma Hayek) changes his life completely.

Mike (Channing Tatum) hooks up with Max as she rebounds from a messy separation from her mega-rich husband and she carts him away to London for a mysterious job. The employment turns out to be revitalising a theatre that said husband used to own but that now belongs to Max. The night of passion with Mike has ignited feelings inside her not known before.

Once the film arrives in the United Kingdom. it shifts to being a theatre piece with all the bureaucratic hurdles to success predictably in place. Some of the efforts at a resolution to the problems are very entertaining and the dancing cast is supreme in their skill sets. The budding romance between M & M underlings the occasion.

If this is indeed the last Magic Mike movie, the franchise goes out on a high note. From what is the most simplistic storyline in the series comes a film that is just good almost clean fun. It’s naughty when it needs to be and nice enough to leave a smile on your dial. This is fine escapism and should be experienced as such.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day comes the third installment of the blockbuster “Magic Mike” film franchise, the musical comedy “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.”

The creative team behind the first film, which garnered praise from critics and audiences alike, has reunited to create the magic again: Channing Tatum reprises his role as Mike Lane and Steven Soderbergh returns to the helm with a script from Reid Carolin, who also wrote the first two films. And starring alongside Tatum is Salma Hayek Pinault (“House of Gucci,” “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”).

“Magic” Mike Lane (Tatum) takes to the stage again after a lengthy hiatus, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida. For what he hopes will be one last hurrah, Mike heads to London with a wealthy socialite (Hayek Pinault) who lures him with an offer he can’t refuse…and an agenda all her own. With everything on the line, once Mike discovers what she truly has in mind, will he—and the roster of hot new dancers he’ll have to whip into shape—be able to pull it off?

The film’s producers are Nick Wechsler, Gregory Jacobs, Tatum, Carolin and Peter Kiernan. Julie M. Anderson serves as executive producer.

Also starring with Tatum and Hayek Pinault are Ayub Khan Din (“Ackley Bridge”), newcomer Jemelia George, Juliette Motamed (“We Are Lady Parts”) and Vicki Pepperdine (“Johnny English Strikes Again”).

Soderbergh’s creative team behind the scenes includes production designer Pat Campbell (“The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself”), costume designer Christopher Peterson (“The Irishman”) and music supervisor Season Kent (“KIMI,” “Let Them All Talk”), with choreography by Alison Faulk and Luke Broadlick, both part of the “Magic Mike” franchise.

A Warner Bros. Pictures Presentation, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” slides into theaters only in North America on February 10, 2023 and internationally beginning 8 February 2023, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

With surprisingly solid chemistry between its two star leads and an easy to admire screenplay, The Lost City is just good old fashion fun. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum riff off each other while staying absolutely true to their established one-screen personas. This adventure film also lives up to its category with some vibrant set pieces.

During this ceremony, Loretta is kidnapped by Mr. Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe) to translate an ancient text that provides the basis to find hidden treasure. This leads to some globe-trotting while Fairfax’s nefarious plans come to full fruition. This also leads to a hilarious cameo from one Mister Brad Pitt.

Films of this ilk rely heavily on the chemistry between their main protagonists and this coupling works out well. It’s escapist entertainment that requires little from its audience but delivers a substantial amount of good clean fun.
