Special advance screenings of the family movie event Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile will be held at select cinemas nationally to support this unique respite program for children with special needs.

This year marks 24 years that the Sony Foundation has funded the Children’s Holiday Camp Program, affectionately known as ‘Sony Camp’.

Sony Camps empower high school and university students to take on the responsibility for the full-time care of children with disability for three days and two nights, allowing their families to access critical respite.

This year, 900 students from 50 schools and universities around the country will provide the holiday of a lifetime for over 500 children with disability at no cost to their families/carers. Funds raised will ensure the program continues to grow and offer this extraordinary opportunity to more families around Australia, including those from regional and remote areas.

The special screenings will take place from 10am* on Sunday, December 11 at Event Cinemas, Village Cinemas, Greater Union, Birch Carroll & Coyle, Hoyts, Dendy, Reading, Wallis, Grand Cinemas, Ace Cinemas, Limelight and United Cinemas. The women do take advantage of the men but it is done in such a way as to drag all concerned through the gutter. The targets and their platinum cards pay extravagantly for the privilege of their company but the women doing the fleecing are also losing something.

Jennifer Lopez as the girl’s ringleader, Ramona shows real application to the role and her athleticism is impressive. Her character has a steely core but this resolve is not used for anything even close to noble. Her narcissism is her strongest trait.

As a cautionary story, Hustlers has some value. As an indictment of a period of time filled with wanton excess and heightened male chauvinism, the women come out of this film looking no better than the men.

This fish out of water tale follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) as the woman with the humble background meeting the boyfriend Nick Young’s (Henry Golding) family for the first time. Nick has keep his family’s wealth and influence a secret. The family is of course opposed to the match, so the film finds its way to the inevitable conclusion is a very predictable way.

This is not to say that the ride does not have it charms, the selling of the lifestyles of the rich and famous is entertaining in its opulence and excessiveness. As are the family cliches as they add up. It’s never challenging but provides solid and predictable fun.

When the class war subsides and Rachel has won over her most ardent opponent, Nick’s patriarchal mother Elanor (Michelle Yeoh) with an act of selflessness, you give in and go along even though you have that moment of expecting more. Reality has long ago left the building and what you are left with is frothy fun.
