Win a Double Pass to see Wonder Wheel!

Four lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of 1950s Coney Island in Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel, a searing tale of passion and betrayal. There’s Ginny (Kate Winslet), an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress; Humpty (Jim Belushi), Ginny’s rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey (Justin Timberlake), a handsome young lifeguard; and Carolina (Juno Temple), Humpty’s long-estranged daughter, who is hiding out from gangsters at her father’s apartment. ...

The Mountain Between Us Movie Review

The two leads, Idris Elba and Kate Winslet are both great actors but here their chemistry never really gels. Even the moments of adversity they overcome feel forced and more than a little unauthentic. The set up is believable and the third lead, the terrain, is visually stunning and more than sufficient to sell the absolute isolation faced by the stranded couple. Elba and Winslet riff off each other at first and it’s these early scenes that are most enjoyable but the film soon falls ...

2016 Oscar Season

Spotlight More of a detective drama than a sole examination of the deeply entrenched evil that the Catholic Church posses in regards to paedophilia, Spotlight is still difficult to watch. The Big Short In retelling a moment in time that had a dramatic effect on the entire world, The Big Short succeeds in taking a somewhat complicated story and reducing it to its primary human trait, greed. It also uses hilarious cameos by a surprising group ...

Steve Jobs Movie Review

Screenplay writer Aaron Sorkin’s influence can be felt in more than just the words in the film as the Sorkinisms just keep piling up. The famous walk and talk shot is used throughout, as is the uber intelligent and quick witted conversational style. The brain pool on display is never short of exceptional as are the acting chops. Michael Fassbender as Jobs is fantastic as is Kate Winslet as Job’s right hand woman Joanna Hoffman. Winslet’s take on Hoffman with her strange accent and ...

The Dressmaker Movie Review

The story revolves around country life in a very small town and the often times negative effects of power and privilege filtered through gossip and innuendo. Kate Winslet is fantastic as Myrtle 'Tilly' Dunnage who returns to the town to address some long held secrets. Liam Hemsworth (brother of Thor) is also very effective as the love interest. The film is unafraid to throw the audience and the characters themselves under the bus and as such there are some very genuine moments of ...

A Little Chaos Competition

Thanks to Transmission Films, we have five double in season passes to give away to A Little Chaos! // The world’s greatest landscape architect – Le Notre (Matthias Schoenaerts) – designer of the Versailles gardens – is unfulfilled in love. Madame Sabine de Bara (Kate Winslet) is pioneering and fiercely independent – her visionary ideas for design seem anarchic to King Louis’ (Alan Rickman) formal court. It takes a little chaos for nature to blossom and love to heal and ...
