You can have your cake and eat it too with a side of superb cinema at our Seniors Morning Tea Preview Screening of THE GREAT ESCAPER at Dendy Cinemas Coorparoo and Dendy Cinemas Portside on Thursday, February 15.

Screening includes morning tea at 10am with the film commencing at 10.30am. Please click on the above venue links to purchase tickets.

THE GREAT ESCAPER is an uplifting new British drama starring Academy Award winners Michael Caine and the late Glenda Jackson in their final film roles. An inspiring true story of one man’s unlikely quest to honour D-Day and his fallen comrades, this classical narrative explores the horrors of war and reality of aging with charming wit and a very big heart.

The summer of 2014 marked the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings – octogenarian Bernie Jordan (Caine) made global headlines as he staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades. It was a story that captured the imagination of the world. Bernie seemed to embody the defiant “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. Bernie’s Big Adventure only spanned a mere 48 hours, but it also marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Rene (Jackson, who passed shortly after production concluded) – the story celebrates their love with a touching sincerity.

“A moving and surprisingly nuanced drama offering far more than flag-waving nostalgia.” – Empire

“Caine and Jackson and their ineffable class give this film some real grit.” – The Guardian

“A salute to a generation who we should cherish.” – The Sun

The film’s trailer to the contrary, Kingsman: The Secret Service is a lot more than just a comic send up of the James Bond style of upper crust British Spy. The film has a large number of funny moments but it is also very violent and more than a touch irreverent. The most consistent quality of the film is its entertainment quotient, as it’s never less than entertaining.

Colin Firth as Kingsman agent Harry Hart is flawlessly cast as our introduction to this world of perfect gentlemanly conduct and deadly killing precision. And in stark contrast to the recent proclivity of the Bond franchise to do away with all those cool spy gadgets, this film is littered with deadly hardware that would have made the old Q more than happy.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

Two days later, they manage to escape worth allegedly over £200 million worth of stolen jewels and money. When police are called to the scene and investigation starts, the cracks between the misfit gang members begin to show as they row over how to share the goods and become increasingly distrustful of each other.

Meanwhile, the crime has become public knowledge, and a frenzy of speculations begin. As details about the crime come to light, both the British public and the media are captivated, and the investigation is followed with bated breath around the world until the criminals are eventually captured.

A famous thief in his younger years, 77 year old widower Brian Reader pulls together a band of misfit criminals to plot an unprecedented burglary at the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit. The thieves, all in their 60s and 70s except for one, employ their old-school thieving skills to plan the heist over the Easter holiday weekend.

As details about the crime come to light, both the British public and the media are captivated, and the investigation is followed with bated breath around the world until the criminals are eventually captured.
