Do you have a favourite film you’ve watched a bunch of times, but you’ve never seen it on the big screen? Now is your chance to take a blast to the past with our month of Retro screenings every Thursday at Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema with four retro film favourites.

From the iconic romcom NOTTING HILL and the 80s gem DIRTY DANCING to the Audrey Hepburn classic BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S and the 90s comedy smash CLUELESS, there’s something for everyone on this bill.

Join us from Thursday, 20 March – Thursday 10 April for some retro nostalgia in the picturesque surrounds of New Farm Park right next to the iconic Brisbane Powerhouse and experience Brisbane’s only all year round outdoor cinema.

NOTTING HILL (1999), starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant tells the story of William Thacker a London bookstore owner whose humdrum existence is thrown into romantic turmoil when famous American actress Anna Scott appears in his shop.

A chance encounter over spilled orange juice leads to a kiss that blossoms into a full-blown affair. As the average bloke and glamorous movie star draw closer and closer together, they struggle to reconcile their radically different lifestyles in the name of love.
Screening Thursday, 20 March

Screening Thursday, 27 March

Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai a makeover. When Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realizes that her disapproving ex-stepbrother was right about how misguided she was — and falls for him.

Yes, I have that kind of pawrents. They know nothing is too good for me and I make sure that code is followed to the letter. So when I woke up at the vet, who I also have wrapped around my paw with this weird thing on my neck that I couldn’t chew through, I had to figure out a way to make it into an advantage.

When I heard my pawrents speak of this colourful movie with my kindred spirit Margot Robbie, I knew I had to see it. Now let’s dispel a rumour right now, we of the furry kind can see moving images on a screen even if red and green are sort of difficult. What member of my fellow brethren doesn’t like to bark at those Hollywood doggos when we see them on the screen?

Now how to get my way? The bigger of my two pawrents had this stack of paper on the coffee table with an image of Margot on it, so I chewed up everything but that lovely face and even though I don’t think they enjoyed the mess, it must have planted a seed because only a few days later I walked up in my finest, plus that damn plastic thing to an outdoor space filled with chairs and fellow furry friends.

The mix of smells was wonderful and I even fancied a big pooch sitting regally a small distance away. Everyone was in such a good mood, the cuddles came from everywhere, although it does help that I’m cute as a button. I had such a good time I left my calling card as often as I could on the walk back to the steel box that moves. The next day the pawrents were saying something about another outdoor event with something called Mean Girls. I will be going to that as I already have a few ideas, just hope this stupid plastic thing is gone by then.

The Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Theatre with have a second dog-friendly screening of the film Mean Girls on Sunday February 11. Info at:www.powerhouse.dendy.com.au

Dendy Cinemas, the home of quality cinema brings you an unforgettable new outdoor cinema experience at Brisbane Powerhouse, the home of contemporary arts and culture.

DENDY POWERHOUSE OUTDOOR CINEMA is a new and innovative concept from the independent cinema group with traditional cinema locations already cemented into the Brisbane cinema scene at Coorparoo and Portside Wharf. Dendy now invites you to experience a new era in Brisbane entertainment with the first permanent outdoor cinema for the city.

Nothing says you’re in Queensland more than gathering with your friends and family and enjoying the outdoor lifestyle year-round so what better way to mix our love of film and cinema going than with the ultimate outdoor movie experience. No longer do you have to stay inside for your cultural fix.

Dendy Cinemas CEO, Sharon Strickland expressed the collective excitement of this new venture saying, “We are delighted to be partnering with the Brisbane Powerhouse to deliver a stylish and sophisticated, all year round, outdoor cinema experience for the Brisbane community. True to the Dendy brand, Dendy Powerhouse will screen high quality curated content across a wide range of genres, aiming to transport audiences on a journey like never before”.

With such an iconic landmark as Brisbane Powerhouse and set alongside the picturesque New Farm Park and the Brisbane River, it is the perfect backdrop to set the stage for a stylish, comfortable and unique escape into the world of movies.

Brisbane Powerhouse CEO/Artistic Director Kate Gould says, “We’re thrilled to partner with Dendy on this new Outdoor Cinema, a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to showcasing diverse art forms at Brisbane Powerhouse. This cinema will feature Dendy’s impressive film selection alongside our festival programming, offering audiences a range of films, from blockbusters to artistically diverse creations.”

Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema will be showcasing a program of films every Thursday – Sunday evenings catering for movie enthusiasts of all ages with a carefully curated mix of our unique blend of arthouse and mainstream programming.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

DIRTY HARRY Set on the mean streets of San Francisco in the early 1970s, this gritty and suspenseful film stars Clint Eastwood as the infamous Inspector Harry Callahan, who earned the moniker Dirty Harry for his reputation of handling the dirtiest homicidal crimes. When a vicious serial killer emerges, it’s clear the only man who can stop his reign of terror is the cop with a very dirty attitude.

EASY RIDER The definitive counterculture blockbuster, this down-and-dirty directorial debut of former clean-cut teen star Dennis Hopper heralded the arrival of a new voice in film, one pitched angrily against the mainstream. With its radical, New Wave style editing, outsider-rock soundtrack, revelatory performance by a young Jack Nicholson, and an explosive ending, the American road trip would never be the same.

ROBOCOP Unsurpassably thrilling, unexpectedly moving, and unforgettably hilarious in equal measure, Paul Verhoeven’s future of law enforcement features exciting and kinetic visuals, a sharp script, an iconic cast, and exceptional special effects in this classic story of a heroic cop who is resurrected a cybernetic mix of spare human parts and steel to become the latest defence against crime.

LA HAINE Winner of Best Director at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival and three César Awards including Best Film, Mathieu Kassovitz’s French crime drama remains a seminal piece of 90s cinema. A blisteringly effective pieces of urban cinema, this hard-hitting and uncompromising look at the long-festering social and economic divisions in Paris remains as pertinent as ever.
