With Trainwreck, comedian Amy Schumer continues to throw the gender bias in comedy on its ear. This is funny business with no apologies. Schumer’s on screen character Amy (in line with the persona on her TV show Inside Amy Schumer) is unafraid to indulge in behaviour that traditionally would brand a woman a slut but reward a man with player status. Her walks of shame are informed by a nod and a wink.

The way Schumer resolves the final situation is most unexpected and proves her comic ability to think outside the box. It’s a fantastic resolution and way to end the film and adds to the film’s long list of highlights. It is clever without being condescending.

The movies rewards the viewer with so many laugh out loud moments, you sometimes miss the ensuing lines amidst all the laughter. It’s a film that will reward again and again with multiple viewings. See it for the laughs, remember it for its big heart.
