Part one of the Frederick Ashton double-bill is The Dream – an airy, romantic work created to celebrate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birth, and an homage to his play A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Marguerite and Armand brings the passion of a tragic affair between the doomed courtesan Marguerite and her lover Armand, framed through a series of flashbacks. Franz Liszt’s music pulses through each scene, including his famous Piano Sonata in B minor, enhancing the emotional intensity of this unforgettable ballet.

Through David’s vision, audiences will be enraptured with ballet’s iconic characters: Prince Siegfried, the Swan Queen Odette and her evil counterpart Odile, in a story of doomed love that continues to move audiences all over the world.

Set to Tchaikovsky’s poignant score, Swan Lake presents ballet’s most famous scenes, including the resplendent Act II pas de deux for Siegfried and Odette. This Swan Lake reinterprets the time-honoured masterpiece as never witnessed before, a work that will redefine ballet history for generations to come.

George Balanchine’s JEWELS is a three-part ballet celebrating his vision of three jewels. Visually and thematically structured around the motifs of Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds, the piece explores the idea of movement radiating from the body through each specific jewel.

JEWELS showcases Balanchine’s atmospheric musicality. These contrasting works explore his time in Paris, New York and St Petersburg through the harmony of music and the defining visual elements of colour, shape and silhouette.

Each of the three acts is distinct in style and mood, set to music by three different composers: Fauré for Emeralds, Stravinsky for Rubies and Tchaikovsky for Diamonds. Opulent costumes and sets unify each of the three sections to achieve one regal whole, which will showcase the breathtaking classical precision of The Australian Ballet’s artists.

Broadcast live from The Arts Centre Melbourne’s State Theatre, Kunstkamer is The Australian Ballet’s first ever live to cinema event and it will be coming to you live exclusively at Dendy Coorparoo, including live interviews and behind-the-scenes footage before the performance and during interval.

Kunstkamer is an experience of dance on another frequency. One stage will be 80 dancers, and a string of unforgettable ensemble works, created by four of the world’s most celebrated dance makers.

Kunstkamer ignites the imagination in an unforgettable celebration of dance. Presented for the first time outside of the Netherlands by The Australian Ballet, Kunstkamer features music by a vast array of composers, from Beethoven to Janis Joplin and Joby Talbot. The Australian Ballet’s legendary Artistic Director David Hallberg also joins the company on stage in this captivating artistic spectacle.
