With its sugary sweet harmonies, rollicking percussion and cacophonous horns reminiscent of vintage rag-time cabaret, Beck states of the show stopping tune “Crack Bang Bang is a Kinks styled ode to every ex-boyfriend there ever was. It’s summer! Time to break in a new one…” Rolling Stone Magazine Australia declared of the track “There’s a song called “Crack Bang Bang” smack bang (bang) in the middle of Sahara Beck’s second album, and it’s a ripper. Stretching out beyond the earnest folk-rock of her 2014 EP, Beck and her band have pulled off a zany carnival pop song on an album that’s best when its protagonist is taking risks.”

Beck has just been nominated for Queensland’s Live Voice of the Year for the National Live Music Awards (NLMAs). PANACEA has garnered rave reviews since its April release, with its ambitious arrangements and wildly diverse influences – from jazz and soul to glitchy beats – gelling together into something that feels completely unique. Beck’s second LP, the record was built around a week-long session at the legendary 301 Byron Bay studios – just days before it closed for good. Working with long-time collaborator and engineer Jeff Lovejoy Lovejoy (Powderfinger, Tex Perkins, Evil Eddie), who also produced the album. The record may be full of experimentation, but it never strays from the simple formula of wonderful songs performed with genuine passion.
