Handsome Tours is thrilled to announce that The National will return to Australia in March and April 2020. They will be supported on all dates by Phoebe Bridgers.

The tour will celebrate the release of The National’s eighth studio album I Am Easy To Find – out now via Remote Control Records / 4AD.

Formed in 1999, the Ohio-raised, Brooklyn-based band consists of vocalist Matt Berninger plus two pairs of brothers: Aaron Dessner (guitar, bass, piano) and Bryce Dessner (guitar), and Scott Devendorf (bass, guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums).

The National’s triumphant previous visit to Australia in 2018 included sold-out performances at Sydney Opera House Forecourt, Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl and Brisbane’s Riverstage. For their upcoming tour, the band will nestle into their most intimate Australian venues in a decade, delivering fans the raw intensity and emotion of their live show, up-close-and-personal like never before. Be quick – tickets will not last!

Joining The National on all dates will be special guest Phoebe Bridgers. Hailing from Los Angeles, Bridgers released her debut album Stranger In The Alps in 2017 to international acclaim, with haunting, introspective songs that garnered widespread comparisons to legendary songwriters like Elliott Smith and Joni Mitchell. In the last 12 months, Bridgers has continued with a prolific release schedule; teaming up with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus to release an EP as boygenius and joining forces with Conor Oberst for a full-length album under the guise Better Oblivion Community Centre. She returns to Australia following sell-out headline shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane earlier this year.

Since releasing her third album “Primal Heart” just last month, the New York-based singer who emerged in 2010 with her colourful indie-pop singles ‘Settle Down’ and ‘Cameo Lover’ has been on a path of continuous evolution. Since becoming a household name in 2012 on her duet with Gotye on the ubiquitous eleven-time ARIA certified Platinum and multiple Grammy Award-winning single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, her own debut album “Vows”, released in the same year, showcased the artistic breadth of a performer more eccentric and autonomous than simply a few fleeting vocal lines.

Returning again in 2014 with her sprawling sophomore album “The Golden Echo” which left the folksy stylings of “Vows” behind for something more elastic and experimental, her sticky-sweet mix of electronica, hip-hop and disco on tracks like ‘90s Music’, ‘Love In High Places’ and ‘Miracle’ left critics perplexed and impressed, receiving the endorsement of Paste, Consequence of Sound, Spin and more along the way. And with the anticipation of a co-headline tour with Janelle Monae in 2014, although postponed, Kimbra pursued and toured Australia electrifying audiences in Sydney and Melbourne.

Quietly spending the past two years assembling the new album, self-producing and mixing alongside co-producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, Explosions In The Sky), among other producers in Los Angeles and New Zealand, including hit-machine Skrillex on “Top of the World”, Kimbra’s third body of work “Primal Heart” emerged. Shifting gears with a soulful, sparse yet punchy electronic-pop record featuring singles ‘Everybody Knows’, ‘Top Of The World’ and ‘Human’, Kimbra offers an invitation for listeners to experience the inherent vulnerability in her voice, conveying raw emotion throughout each song. Following up from her one-off performance at Arts Centre Melbourne’s 2017“Supersense” festival, Kimbra finally returns to Australia as the “confident, self-actualized star and feminist pop warrior,” (Interview Magazine) we’ve always admired.

Kingswood will round out 2017 in spectacular style, with a mammoth national tour that sees them landing all over this wide and wonderful land and will be the first time new tracks from their latest LP, After Hours, Close To Dawn will have been played live in some of these areas.

After Hours, Close To Dawn, was a creative evolution in sound for the gents from Kingswood. Their second release to debut in the ARIA top 10, cultivating a bunch of new radio favourites, like ‘Golden’, ‘Creepin’ and ‘Atmosphere’.

It follows on from their debut album Microscopic Wars, and saw them power down a new sonic path, resulting in a change of sound that delighted and astonished fans.

After Hours, Close To Dawn was named in Rolling Stone Australia’s 50 Most Anticipated Albums of 2017, as well as The Herald Sun’s Biggest New Albums in 2017, mixing an eclectic collection of retro R’n’B grooves with soaring rock & roll, fuzzy soul and space age experimentation. It’s all connected by the defining element that is the trio’s creative DNA. No matter what shape they take, these songs are still instantly recognisable as pure Kingswood.

Kingswood will join heavyweights Queens of The Stone Age, LCD Soundsystem and HAIM at Byron’s Splendour In The Grass Festival before setting off on this headline tour.

Joining the gents for all tour dates will be rambunctious rock ‘n’ rollers The Vanns, and Sydney’s rockers Dear Seattle will be along for all shows excepting north Queensland dates.

The return of Vancouver duo Japandroids for a national Australian headline tour this July has been announced.

The tour comes hot on the heels of the band’s acclaimed third album, ‘Near To The Wild Heart Of Life‘ – released January on Pod/Inertia. The run of dates marks Japandroids’ first visit to Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth in four years with performances taking place in Sydney and Melbourne also.

Japandroids are a two-piece band from Vancouver, BC, which began in 2006 and consists of Brian King and David Prowse. Japandroids are one guitar, one set of drums, and two vocalizers. Japandroids are maximal in their delivery; a two-piece band sounding like a five- piece band. With the release of their second album, ‘Celebration Rock‘ in 2012 the band embarked on what seemed like an endless world tour, performing over 200 shows in over 40 countries, and played their final show in support of Celebration Rock in Buenos Aires, Argentina in November 2013.

They would not perform live again for three years. Their third album, ‘Near To The Wild Heart Of Life‘, was written clandestinely throughout 2014 and 2015 in Vancouver, Toronto, New Orleans, and Mexico City. The title comes from a passage in the novel “A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man” by James Joyce: ͞He was alone. He was unheeded, happy, and near to the wild heart of life.͟

Don’t miss Japandroids’ highly-ancitipated return to Australian shores in July 2017.

Armed with one of Australia’s most distinctive voices, Katy Steele releases the beautiful and daring new single ‘Where’s The Laughter’, the first official release to be lifted off her forthcoming debut solo album ‘Human’. The LP is set to be released in Australia October 21 via Create/Control, and to celebrate the release Katy will be showcasing her new material on the road in September with her playing shows in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney throughout September.

‘Where’s The Laughter’ was written and recorded by Steele in the basement studio of her childhood home in Perth and co-produced with fellow Perth native Matt Gio (Abbe May, San Cisco, Birds Of Tokyo). Of working with Gio, Steele says their collaboration was inspired by experimentation and hip hop production. “We started to experiment with making our own loops out of percussive layers like clicks, claps and things really started to change feel. The sngs started to feel real and human. We were heavilty influenced by raw, organic sounding percussion and it really became a foundation for the record. I wanted tomarry that element with my obsession with the voice and gospel choirs.”

That percussive exploration also influenced the mixing of the record, as Katy enlisted Eric J Dubowsky (Flume, Chet Faker, Wafia) who’s revered touch added a contemporary dynamic that pushed the record to another level.

Human is an album filled with colour and versatility, showcasing a determined level of artistry, that is immediately obvious thanks to the sheer amount of energy Steele and collaborator Matt Gio have injected into the LP. The songs have undergone several evolutions, as Steele explains. “Some of the tunes were written in Perth on a clunky upright in my parents front room. Some were written in an underground studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn. This debut really is a snapshot of the last few years of my life.”

Since her time fronting Little Birdy, the “nation-conquering rock outfit led by one of our country’s most charismatic and gifted female musicians” (The Music) for eight-years and three wildly revered ARIA top 10 albums (Confetti (2009), Hollywood (2006) and Bigbiglove (2004)), Steele has proven herself to be an artist that has carved out a career in her own right. Human allows for an eye opening glimpse into all that Katy Steele’s journey has lead up to until now, while providing sonic clarity to the path she is set to take in the future.

Acclaimed Sydney-based outfit Little May have revealled the details of their highly anticipated debut album and forthcoming 25-date international tour to present the work to fans around the world. Titled ‘For The Company’, and produced by Aaron Brooking Dessner (The National), the 11-track LP will be released on October 9 via Dew Process/Universal Music Australia. The highly anticipated album includes the Hype Machine topping single, Hide as a bonus track, which is taken from the band’s 2014 debut EP. The act will play four live shows for Australian audiences this September before embarking on an extensive tour of the US, UK and Europe.

The announcement comes just a few weeks after the group blew fans away with the Tim Sessler-directed video for the album’s first single – the fragile, dark and intense ‘Home’. The single currently sits at #4 on Amrap’s AirIt metro chart locally, and has been receiving international recognition with airplay across the likes of BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 6.

Fans of Dessner and The National, it was a career-defining moment when Aaron expressed great interest in working with the band. During April and May of 2015, Annie Hamilton, Liz Drummond and Hannah Field, along with their band, comprised of Cat Hunter and Mark Harding, made their way to Hudson in upstate New York and began recording their debut album with Aaron.

“It was a dream of ours to work with Aaron Dessner. We are so incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to make this album with him, and Jonathan Lowe, who engineered and mixed the album. Aaron captured the heart of what we are about, and we couldn’t be more thankful,” Little May say about the experience.

Recorded in the main hall at Future Past Studios, a converted nineteenth-century church in Hudson, New York, the unique setting helped capture an intensity now trademark of Little May’s music. With the remainder of the album completed in Aaron’s garage in Brooklyn, New York set the visual soundtrack for this unique experience, as documented in the accompanying video for ‘Home’.

Their May/June European tour saw them selling out their London show two months in advance, alongside a packed Paris performance and string of UK dates. Across the pond in the US, Little May played alongside the likes of Mumford & Sons, Alabama Shakes and The Flaming Lips on the Gentlemen of the Road tour, before their performance at Bonnaroo Festival. The outfit will also perform at Reading Festival, Leeds Festival and Electric Picnic in August.

Kicking off in Sydney in September and ending in Melbourne three weeks later, the now 15 date tour features special guests Willow Beats, Porsches and L.K. McKay.

Last week Tkay dropped the long-awaited clip for her current hit single ‘M.O.B’ which sees the return of the cartoon Tkay depicted in last year’s ‘Switch Lanes’ and introduces a new badass space Maidza. In a blaze of lasers, spaceship drag races and mad skills, the two battle it out in the quest to reign as the ultimate Tkay.

The video brings to (computer-generated) life the essence of the song, which was written as a letter to the nineteen-year-old’s future self, a declaration to always work hard without complaining, stay focused and channel ambition as a weapon for success.

Since its realease “M.O.B.” has topped the alternative radio airplay charts and is now making an imprint on commercial radio following her sold-out M.O.B. National Australian Tour, supports with Charli XCX and recent UK tour with band of the moment Years & Years.

With the July 31 release of Gurrumul’s third studio recording, The Gospel Album fast approaching, comes a first look at the cover art and track listing and the announcement of a national tour in support of the album.

To mark the release of The Gospel Album, Gurrumul will embark on a six-date national tour, The Gospel Songs, a rare opportunity to see this mesmerising performer live in concert. Accompanied by an orchestra and local choirs, he will commence the tour at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on 29 July, taking in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, and concluding in Perth on 12 August. Tickets for The Gospel Songs live event go on sale next Friday 12 June (with Adelaide & Melbourne on sale now).

Gurrumul’s The Gospel Album is a dedication to his mother and aunts, who brought him up with songs and lullabies from the church at Elcho Island. As a small boy Gurrumul was not only influenced by the traditional music of his clan but by the gospel music he heard every Sunday at the local Methodist church. The Gospel Album is a re-imagining of the spiritual songs that came to north-east Arnhem Land via Christian missionaries.

The Gospel Album was produced by Gurrumul’s long-time collaborator, Michael Hohnen from Skinnyfish Music.
