Welcome to the rough-and-tumble town of Deadwood, where swaggering sharpshooter Calamity Jane is mocked and admired in equal measure. Deadly with a whip or a quip, her bluster and bravado mask a longing for something deeper.

Cabaret daredevil Naomi Price (Drizzle Boy, Ladies in Black) slips into Jane’s trail-worn boots for this rootin’ tootin’ unruly and unpredictable ride.

Join Calamity’s piano-fuelled posse and pull up a stool at one of the on-stage saloon tables to be part of the action!

This revival has all your favourite numbers, including “Secret Love” and “The Black Hills of Dakota” but this ain’t Doris Day’s Calamity Jane, no siree. This stripped-back reimagining shucks off the buckskin and brings a barrelful of dirt and grit to the classic musical.

Hailed as “outstandingly clever… gut-bustlingly funny [and with] an extraordinarily generous heart” (The Australian), saddle up and ride before dawn ‘cause these here tickets will fly out the door faster than you can crack a whip!

Christmas is the time to be with the people you love and this year, audiences in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide can spend the festive season with the dazzling stars of Christmas Actually.

The Little Red Company presents the music of Love Actually live on stage with four big seasons in Brisbane (13 – 17 December), Sydney (6 – 9 December), Adelaide (8 December) and Melbourne (15 – 16 December).

This marks the sixth consecutive year the five-star festive smash has wowed audiences with its signature heart and humour and celebrates the 20th anniversary of the film’s release.

The Brisbane season reunites Christmas Actually favourites Naomi Price, Irena Lysiuk and the original dancing Prime Minister Luke Kennedy, with musical theatre star Doron Chester (Aladdin, Frozen the Musical) making his Little Red debut.

The show performs at Brisbane Powerhouse for the first time, backed by Little Red’s world-class four-piece band.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

Musical theatre superstar Stefanie Jones, fresh from playing Mary Poppins in the blockbuster national production, makes her Christmas Actually debut in the Sydney season alongside Price, Kennedy and Chester.

This is the third time the feel-good festive hit plays the iconic Sydney Opera House, following successful seasons in 2019 and 2022.

Cabaret legend Libby O’Donovan OAM leads an all-star cast in Christmas Actually’s debut seasons in Melbourne and Adelaide.

She is joined at Her Majesty’s Theatre in her hometown of Adelaide by Lysiuk, Joshua Robson (Phantom of the Opera) and Little Red debutant JD Smith (The TEN Tenors), the latter two also playing Melbourne’s The Round alongside Jones.

Cementing itself as Australia’s favourite festive tradition, Christmas Actually features hits from artists including Mariah Carey, Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy, The Beach Boys and The Beatles, brought to the stage by talented live musicians and acclaimed performers.

Co-creator and star Price said that just as there was more than one lobster present at the birth of Jesus, so too was there more than enough of Little Red’s signature sparkle to sprinkle on Australian audiences.

“This year marks 20 years since the release of Richard Curtis’ instant holiday classic, Love Actually, yet it remains as poignant and nostalgic as ever,” Price said.

“The film chronicles 10 completely different love stories – romantic love, unrequited love, new love, familial love, platonic love – each soundtracked by music that plucks at heartstrings and raises the roof with equal power and potency.

“This has been another tough year for so many people and we are reminded that what the world really needs now, more than ever, is love.

“So, say it’s carol singers, get ready in the flashiest of flashes and brace yourself to experience the total agony of being in love when Little Red brings powerhouse performances, so many laughs and a few tears to concert halls and theatres across Australia this December.”

What better way to kickstart the new year than by spending an evening with three of Australia’s leading stars of the stage – Caroline O’Connor, Amy Lehpamer and Naomi Price – as they perform the greatest musical theatre songs of all time in QPAC’s Concert Hall. From Evita’s “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” and Chicago’s “All That Jazz” to Wicked’s “Defying Gravity”, expect musical hit after musical hit… along with a few extra surprises!

The three award-winning vocal powerhouses will join forces, the first time they have ever appeared together on stage, working their way through a songbook of beloved musical theatre songs alongside a 10-piece band and with outstanding vocalist Luke Kennedy (The Voice Australia, The Ten Tenors, Jesus Christ Superstar) as special guest.

Australian musical theatre legend and internationally acclaimed star of Broadway and London’s West End, Caroline O’Connor is no stranger to QPAC, having performed here in Chicago (1998/2008), Anything Goes (2015) and From Broadway with Love (2021) to name but a few. O’Connor starred as Nini Legs in the Air in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge, the iconic director calling her “A gift from the heavens.”

An alumni of The Voice Australia, Price, also a theatre producer, won a Green Room Award for her performance as Fay in Queensland Theatre/Melbourne Theatre Company smash hit Ladies in Black.

On her ‘days off’ from touring the country with her award-winning Adele show Rumour Has It, Queensland ‘it girl’ Naomi Price is preparing to take on an entirely different songbook. Premiering in May as the next instalment in La Boite Theatre Company’s anticipated 2017 season, The Beatles-inspired Lady Beatle reunites Price and long-time collaborator Adam Brunes as writers, with Price to take centre stage backed by a virtuosic band of Australia’s top musicians.

“Lady Beatle is the third and final pop culture cabaret in our planned trilogy, following Rumour Has It and Wrecking Ball,” Price said. “This is certainly our most ambitious work to date, weaving a fantastical fictional tale about the real women who inspired The Beatles’ biggest chart toppers.”

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

Unlike predecessors Rumour Has It and Wrecking Ball, centred on the lives of pop music icons Adele and Miley Cyrus respectively, Price said Lady Beatle wasn’t a ‘live Beatles biopic’.

“At no point will I take on the persona of any of the famous four,” Price said. “Instead, we’ve created an entirely original character, who’s perhaps The Beatles’ biggest fan, or maybe something different completely.”

Price said the production would provide audiences with the opportunity to rediscover The Beatles’ incomparable catalogue as new, channelled through a sole female voice.

“The Beatles’ music is so instantly recognisable and iconic, and every man, woman and child seems to know the biggest hits word-for-word,” Price said.

“But far less known are the individual remarkable stories behind the hits – from the five-year-old pre-schooler who inspired Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds to 17-year-old runaway Melanie Coe to whom She’s Leaving Home is attributed. This show was born from these real life stories of seemingly ordinary women who are forever immortalised as part of an extraordinary legacy.”

For UK-born Price, the work also holds deep personal significance, with connections to her own family in England.

“My first encounter with the music of The Beatles was through my dad, Paul, who was born in Liverpool,” Price said. “He had a Beatles songbook and would play the songs on his guitar, and so I taught myself my favourite songs. As a child, I loved Penny Lane and Love Me Do.”

While she can’t be certain, Price said she held suspicions that her father’s name may be the result of her grandmother’s Beatlemania.

“Dad’s mum, May, had the thickest Scouse accent you could imagine. During the school holidays, she took me on the ferry across the Mersey River to visit The Beatles Museum and the Cavern,” Price said. “Grandma and her sister Josie used to visit the Cavern and listen to The Beatles play live. She taught me how to do the twist and told me her favourite Beatle was ‘our Paul’. Sadly we lost my darling grandmother in 2015 and so, in a way, this show is my way of saying thank you to her for instilling in me a love of life, laughs and music.”

As the production draws near, Price said the company’s biggest challenge was narrowing down the set list. “There are literally hundreds of songs in The Beatles’ catalogue, and if you ask people their favourite, you’re certain to get a hundred different responses,” Price said. “Our challenge is to give audiences what they want, but certainly not what they’re expecting,” Price said.
“What we can promise, though, is incredible live music, new arrangements of your favourite Beatles songs, magical entertainment, and plenty of surprises.”

Todd MacDonald, CEO and Artistic Director at La Boite said “We are thrilled to have Naomi Price back here at La Boite. Naomi is without a doubt a musical star of our stages and we are incredibly excited to be co-producing with The Little Red Company on this next chapter in her extraordinary body of work.”

Lady Beatle plays a strictly limited season at La Boite’s Roundhouse Theatre 25 May – 3 June 2017 starring Naomi Price, with Mik Easterman (Drums), Andrew Johnson (Bass), Michael Manikus (Piano) and Jason McGregor (Guitars).
