Filming an old-school vampire movie on a blood moon night in an isolated mansion, what could go wrong? So starts Wolf Manor. As members of the dysfunctional film crew start to pile up dead everyone is so caught up in finishing the schlock at hand that little heed is paid to the werewolf prowling the grounds.

All the heartless producer can think of is finishing the film before the authorities come and shut down the production. What’s a severed limb or headless corpse in the overall scheme of things anyway? Caution of sorts finally creeps in when a film writer sent to the shoot on a publicity junket shows up mauled to death.

The core members of the crew or at least the ones still left alive hunker down and try to put up some form of resistance. Unfortunately, they are as inept in defence as they are in the art of filmmaking and all they can muster up is a weak fortification based on what few old wives’ tales their addled memory can muster.

As the gore increases so do the humourous moments as the crew show just how out of touch with reality they are. The laughs are generated via the viewers’ grasp of old horror film cliches and b-movie tropes about living on past glories when they are well past their use-by dates. The final reveal also has a lot of fun with werewolf fact.

Wolf Manor is out now on VOD (Google TV, Apple TV) now! Released by Lightbulb Films.

Loosely based on a true story, The Keeper is one of those rare sports films that is involving even if you have no interest in the sport featured. Bert Trautmann (David Kross) was a Nazi paratrooper who was captured on the Western Front by British soldiers near the end of the World War II. He was held captive at a prisoner-of-war camp in Lancashire.

In the film, an English grocer who is supplying the camp with goods sees Trautmann playing football and recognises his skill as a goalie. He coaches a local team and works out a deal with the camp’s commander to have him leave the camp for the day and play for his team.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

Trautmann has to overcome the prejudice and hatred post war for the Germans and so begins his odyssey. One that ultimately ends with him marrying the grocer’s daughter, playing for Manchester United and becoming the receipting of an OBE and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The reality of the period right after the end of war is often overlooked in the joy of the conflict finally being over but it left millions without a home and without immediate family. This tale highlights one soldier’s journey that became a happy one. The film, while being a bit predictable at times still provides a good number of moments that are inspiring.

Based on an incredible true story, THE KEEPER follows Bert Trautmann, a German prisoner of war whose exceptional skills on the soccer field get him noticed by the manager of a local football team. Impressed by Bert’s prowess as a goal-keeper, the team manager gets him out of the camp to play for his team.

Meanwhile, a love slowly blossoms between the manager’s daughter and Bert despite local hostility. In addition to the disapproval of his relationship, Bert’s subsequent signing by Man City brings passionate protests from the people of Manchester, a city that had been severely bombed in the War.

However, against all odds he won over even his harshest critics during the FA Cup Final for Manchester City in 1956. After an on-field accident, Bert broke his neck… and continued playing to secure victory.
