The youngest ever performer on Like A Version, the youngest solo artist to win an ARIA Award and now, the youngest male artist to headline a show at the Sydney Opera House, vocal prodigy Ruel is breaking records for fun.

Celebrating these remarkable feats by hitting the road in May on his Painkiller tour, Ruel will be stopping in Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Forbes, Darwin and of course, Sydney as he takes in the largest venues of his short but extremely eventful career and showcasing tracks from his highly anticipated second EP.

A transcendent new star on an unstoppable trajectory, the London-born, Sydney-based songwriter found himself on the ARIA podium as he took out the 2018 Breakthrough Artist gong for his soul-soaked banger ‘Dazed and Confused’, which landed in in triple j’s Hottest 100 alongside ‘Younger’.

Both tunes, taken from his ubiquitous debut EP Ready, were released amongst a tidal wave of hype which began to swell almost immediately around this young singer-songwriter as his extraordinary soul-tinged voice began to filter out.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

And while eye-watering cinematography and graceful sea life abound, the films are not without their share of blood and chunder – as we follow two crazy Latvians on a second-hand ocean-crossing rowboat named ‘Linda’.

“As much as these are stories to inspire our desire to defend and connect with our oceans, they are also stories about fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, neighbours and mad school mates who are all chasing their dreams,” Robinson says.

“We know that most people leave this event wanting to quit work and hit the water,” she adds. “Which is why every year our audience numbers continue to swell.”

One of Australia’s most loved and respected artists Paul Kelly will embark on a colossal Antipodean tour this November and December. Touring in celebration of his album Life Is Fine (out now through EMI) which just debuted at the top of the ARIA Album Chart, Kelly will tour Australia, visiting both regional and metro cities, before heading to New Zealand for three theatre performances.

Kelly will be joined by a stellar line-up of special guests across the tour, with Steve Earle and Middle Kids supporting for the Brisbane to Perth leg of the tour, Busby Marou supporting in Darwin, Cairns, Townsville and on the New Zealand leg of the tour, The Eastern supporting for all New Zealand shows and Sahara Beck as support at the Rockhampton show.

Kelly’s recently released 23rd studio album Life Is Fine (out now through EMI) showcases this stellar songwriter in firm command of his craft. The 10-time ARIA award winner has achieved his first ever #1 album in his almost 40-year career as a recording artist. The deliberately ambiguous album title – on one hand affirmative, and the other a nod towards interpretations of ‘fine’- is in Paul Kelly’s own words, about ‘never knowing what’s around the corner’. The title track’s lyrics are from a poem by American writer Langston Hughes.

One of his strongest and most evocative albums, Kelly takes backing vocals on tracks ‘My Man’s Got A Cold’ (lead by Vika Bull) and ‘Don’t Explain’ (lead by Linda Bull). “I wonder why I hadn’t thought of it sooner, to have another voice on my records besides mine,” Kelly comments, “A lot of my favourite bands have that.”

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins> <ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

Three time Grammy Award winner Steve Earle, whose songs have been recorded by such legends as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Carl Perkins gained attention from 1986 breakthrough album Guitar Town. Earle’s current release So You Wannabe An Outlaw (out now through Warner) sees him return to his country roots, bringing in Willie Nelson for the title track, roaring a powerful anthem for ‘The Firebreak Line’ and ‘If Mama Coulda Seen Me’.

Sydney band Middle Kids blazed out of the gates with their anthemic alt-rock single ‘Edge of Town’, from their 2017 debut self-titled EP. Days after the release, Middle Kids made their live TV debut on US show Conan, with their international profile bolstered by Elton John announcing he was a fan. Their combination of hooky tune craft, ripping Music Row-inspired slide guitar leads and soaring melodic vocals carry through in ‘Your Love’, ‘Never Start’ and ‘Doing It Right’.

Also joining Kelly as special guests on his Darwin, Cairns and Townsville shows are Rockhampton duo Busby Marou. Recognised for their delightful harmonies blending with melodic, acoustic tunes and heartfelt lyrics, the band won the APRA Award for Blues & Roots Work of the Year for 2012 hit ‘Biding My Time’. Recent release and ARIA number one Postcards From The Shell House champion Busby’s breezy croon and Marou’s earthy guitars in tracks ‘Best Part Of Me’, ‘Paint This Land’ and ‘Getaway Car’.

Joining Kelly as a special guest on his Rockhampton show is Brisbane songstress Sahara Beck. Nominated for 2012 Song of The Year at the QLD Music Awards for ‘You Could Be Happy’, Beck’s infectious, restless spirit stretches her beyond her folk-rock. Soft, sultry vocals caress songs ‘Here It Comes’ and ‘Spinning time’ from latest album Panacea with Beck singing with the wise witticisms of a world-weary blues artist.

Don’t miss your chance to see one of Australia’s foremost singer-songwriters Paul Kelly in concert this November and December. Fans are encouraged to act quickly in securing their tickets; all shows are on sale Monday 28 August.

In 2005 a little known band from Melbourne VIC released what was to become one of the most critically acclaimed, celebrated and talked about Australian albums of modern times. Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Float By catapulted The Drones into the consciousness of mainstream music critics here and overseas, and cemented what fans of the band already knew….

In May this year, to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of it’s release, the band played a special one off show at the Sydney Opera House, for Vivid Live, showcasing tracks from Wait Long, as well as a few new tunes thrown in for good measure. The show was met with a vigorous response, two standing ovations, and a feeling that more people might want to experience it, so the band are taking it to fans around Australia this August and September. Tickets go on sale on Friday 26th of June.
Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Float By will be released on deluxe double 180g vinyl LP with a digital download and it’s own unreleased live album (you can pre order your copy now from thedrones.com.au). This is the first time the album has ever been released on vinyl.

“Let the record show that there is only one band that can open their set with a song that was voted by a group of their peers as the greatest Australian song of all time…That band, ladies and gentlemen, is The Drones.” Music Feeds

“The Drones as one of the very best live bands this country has produced.” Fasterlouder

“The crowd were absolutely transfixed throughout the entire performance, which is a testament to the power and synergy of The Drones and their music, particularly in a live setting.” Monster Children

“Performed live by The Drones at the Opera House with no less vigour than when it was first released a decade ago, the song still has the power to elevate the hairs on the back of the neck and simultaneously send a shiver down the spine, in the best possible way…..The combined effect, like a visceral true-crime soundtrack, was hypnotic…. bringing the audience out of their stunned reverie and to their feet as Liddiard twiddled the knobs on his amp and slunk away.” Sydney Morning Herald

Joining The Drones will be Melbourne doom punk Batpiss, whose recent film clip for ‘The Store’ will give you nightmares for days and the Steve Miller Band (in Castlemaine and Melbourne only), who will just give you nightmares.

Throughout 2015, as well as releasing their brand new seventh studio album, The Drones will be reissuing their entire back catalog through their own label, TFS Records. The new shop at thedrones.com.au will also make available a bunch of new and old school limited edition T-Shirts, posters and other crap that has to date only been available at shows.
