The long awaited return of The Temper Trap to Australian stages has been announced, with confirmation that the band are heading home this May for special intimate concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Rumour has it the shows will give Aussie audiences their first taste of the ARIA Award winning band’s highly anticipated third album, expected to drop in the not too distant future.

It’s been three long years since The Temper Trap last undertook a headline tour of Australia and four years since the release of their ARIA #1 self titled Platinum sophomore album. That album spawned Platinum single ‘Trembling Hands’ and Gold single ‘Need Your Love’, while their 2009 debut album Conditions secured double Platinum sales in Australia and produced the three times Platinum anthem ‘Sweet Disposition’, in addition to Platinum singles ‘Love Lost’ and ‘Fader’.

The Temper Trap recently teased Australian audiences with the release of single ‘Thick As Thieves’ from their forthcoming album. The track has already proven to be a favourite at radio with it jumping to high rotation on numerous playlists. Sure to be a live crowd anthem, ‘Thick As Thieves’ is a tantalising glimpse of exciting things to come.

With over one million albums sold worldwide to date and main stage slots on some of the world’s biggest music festivals, these May Australian dates are a rare opportunity for fans to catch one of Australia’s most acclaimed bands in an intimate setting.

In 2005 a little known band from Melbourne VIC released what was to become one of the most critically acclaimed, celebrated and talked about Australian albums of modern times. Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Float By catapulted The Drones into the consciousness of mainstream music critics here and overseas, and cemented what fans of the band already knew….

In May this year, to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of it’s release, the band played a special one off show at the Sydney Opera House, for Vivid Live, showcasing tracks from Wait Long, as well as a few new tunes thrown in for good measure. The show was met with a vigorous response, two standing ovations, and a feeling that more people might want to experience it, so the band are taking it to fans around Australia this August and September. Tickets go on sale on Friday 26th of June.
Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Float By will be released on deluxe double 180g vinyl LP with a digital download and it’s own unreleased live album (you can pre order your copy now from thedrones.com.au). This is the first time the album has ever been released on vinyl.

“Let the record show that there is only one band that can open their set with a song that was voted by a group of their peers as the greatest Australian song of all time…That band, ladies and gentlemen, is The Drones.” Music Feeds

“The Drones as one of the very best live bands this country has produced.” Fasterlouder

“The crowd were absolutely transfixed throughout the entire performance, which is a testament to the power and synergy of The Drones and their music, particularly in a live setting.” Monster Children

“Performed live by The Drones at the Opera House with no less vigour than when it was first released a decade ago, the song still has the power to elevate the hairs on the back of the neck and simultaneously send a shiver down the spine, in the best possible way…..The combined effect, like a visceral true-crime soundtrack, was hypnotic…. bringing the audience out of their stunned reverie and to their feet as Liddiard twiddled the knobs on his amp and slunk away.” Sydney Morning Herald

Joining The Drones will be Melbourne doom punk Batpiss, whose recent film clip for ‘The Store’ will give you nightmares for days and the Steve Miller Band (in Castlemaine and Melbourne only), who will just give you nightmares.

Throughout 2015, as well as releasing their brand new seventh studio album, The Drones will be reissuing their entire back catalog through their own label, TFS Records. The new shop at thedrones.com.au will also make available a bunch of new and old school limited edition T-Shirts, posters and other crap that has to date only been available at shows. Sign up to the mailing list at thedrones.com.au to ensure you don’t miss out on anything as reissues etc will be staggered throughout the year.

Augie March returned to the fore last year with release Havens Dumb – the first album since critically acclaimed Watch Me Disappear was released in 2008 – plus a series of comeback shows in their Melbourne hometown in October and November. The series of shows were originally meant to be a single comeback gig, but soon ballooned to five shows as the band attempted to keep up with demand.
