Four sisters from country Victoria dream of a stage far beyond their small-town roots. When their girl-group harmonies catch the attention of a big-city talent scout, their lives are changed forever.

Based on the incredible true story of writer Tony Briggs’ mother, The Sapphires follows four Yorta Yorta women who blaze a trail from regional Victoria to the frontlines of Vietnam — entertaining American soldiers, breaking barriers and discovering love along the way.

Featuring ’60s soul classics performed live including Respect, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in His Kiss), this joyous production transforms the intimate Bille Brown Theatre into an electrifying concert-style celebration — up close, personal and impossible to resist.

For more than 25 years, the multi-award-winning play — and the hit film it inspired — have captivated audiences around the world. At its heart, The Sapphires is a proud story of First Nations women whose talent, humour and resilience lit up a remarkable moment in Australian history — a story that, for many years, remained largely untold.

Now the beloved musical returns in a sparkling new production, with the next generation of First Nations performers stepping into the legacy of the women who inspired the story, led by original director and theatre legend Wesley Enoch.

Big-hearted, infectious and full of soul, this celebration of sisterhood, culture and unforgettable music builds to a roof-raising finale — and promises the feel-good musical night out you’ll love from the very first note.

Brisbane’s bayside is set to sparkle a little brighter this Christmas with the arrival of Wynnum Wonderland – a brand-new celebration of music, comedy, cabaret and circus transforming Bay Terrace into a joyful hub of festive entertainment from 28 November to 22 December.

From Tom Oliver Productions – founder of Wynnum Fringe – in partnership with Trigger Happy Productions and Head First Acrobats, Wynnum Wonderland serves up the same trademark mix of world-class talent and local charm that has made the bayside one of Queensland’s most exciting cultural destinations.

The beating heart of Wynnum Wonderland is the iconic Augathella Spiegeltent, a 380-seat revitalised performance tent proudly positioned on Bay Terrace. Designed by the world-renowned Klessens family and relocated 750 kilometres from Augathella to Wynnum, the tent is a masterful fusion of traditional Belgian craftsmanship and the raw, nostalgic aesthetic of an Australian shearing shed. Producer Tom Oliver said Wynnum Wonderland was a gift to local audiences, offering festive fun with a uniquely Queensland twist.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>

“We like to do things our own way here in the bayside and Christmas is no exception,” Oliver said. “After six incredible years of Wynnum Fringe, we know audiences love this kind of feel-good, all-in entertainment and what better time to celebrate than the silly season?” From cheeky cabaret to family fun, the Wynnum Wonderland program twinkles with the full spectrum of festive delight.

Cirque Du Sleigh (28 November – 22 December) promises a cheeky, adults-only comedy cabaret bursting with acrobatics, wit and festive spirit, while Australian comedy icon Dave “Hughesy” Hughes (10 December) headlines an unmissable night of stand-up hilarity with his acclaimed show WTF.

Families can delight in the award-winning Bubble Show in Space (13 – 21 December), a whimsical journey of shadow puppetry, shimmering smoke-filled bubbles and a rocket that really blasts off, and marvel at the high-flying antics of All Star Circus (13 – 21 December), a spectacular showcase of acrobatics and aerial artistry for all ages.

For something explosively different, the science-fuelled spectacular KABOOM: Christmas Chaos Edition (14 – 21 December) returns after sell-out seasons across Australia and the UK with a brand-new festive twist – bigger, louder and more dazzling than ever.

No Christmas celebration would be complete without carols, and Carols in the Spiegeltent (17 December) promises to fill the tent with festive favourites, followed by the community-led Wynnum Wonderland Choir (18 December), inviting locals to join Tom Oliver for a joyous singalong featuring a new rendition of Winter Wonderland rewritten just for the bayside.

Rounding out the season is The Guides (21 December), a groove-heavy live music experience for fans of Sting, Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder, and the perfect feel-good finale to a month of merriment. For Trigger Happy Productions’ Ben Trigger, the event marks a full-circle moment.

“We’ve been part of the Wynnum Fringe story since day one and the energy here just keeps growing,” Trigger said.
“Bayside audiences are something else – open, generous and always up for a good time. We can’t wait to light up the Augathella Spiegeltent again with a brand-new season of festive fun.”

Head First Acrobats’ Thomas Gorham said audiences could expect a high-energy mix of world-class artistry, cheeky humour and Christmas chaos. “Wynnum Wonderland’s line-up is as packed as Santa’s sack, overflowing with world-class acts and holiday cheer,” Gorham said. “Bring your mates, bring your festive spirit and get ready for a month of mischief, mayhem and unforgettable moments under the Spiegeltent.”

With its dazzling line-up, iconic setting and unmistakable Queensland personality, Wynnum Wonderland is poised to become one of Brisbane’s must-do holiday events and a sparkling new tradition on the city’s festive calendar.
Wynnum Wonderland runs from 28 November – 22 December 2025.

The iconic story that made us laugh, cry, and fall in love with six extraordinary women is back — live on stage in a dazzling new Australian production. Written by Robert Harling, the timeless tale of STEEL MAGNOLIAS will come alive under the direction of Lee Lewis and a cast of six powerhouse actors.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS will tour to QPAC, Brisbane from April 2026, Theatre Royal Sydney in May 2026, Wollongong and Canberra in June 2026, His Majesty’s Theatre, Perth in July 2026 and Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre from July 2026.

Step inside Truvy’s beauty salon, the heart of a small Southern town, where local women share their joys, struggles and a little neighbourly gossip. From weddings and babies to divorces and funerals, they face life’s highs and lows with humour, courage and impeccably styled hair. When tragedy strikes, it’s in these familiar walls that they find comfort, support and the unbreakable bonds of friendship that carry them through.

“Following our recent tours of The Woman in Black, Shirley Valentine and The 39 Steps, we’re thrilled to bring STEEL MAGNOLIAS to Australian audiences,” said producers Neil Gooding and Alex Woodward. “The fierce, funny and resilient friendships in the story have always inspired us. It’s a privilege to work with Lee Lewis again, whose direction of Shirley Valentine we so admired, and to bring the heart, humour and spirit of STEEL MAGNOLIAS to the stage with a stellar ensemble of Australia’s most exceptional talent.”

STEEL MAGNOLIAS originally opened in Australia at the York Theatre at Sydney’s Seymour Centre in May 1988 and toured to Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre, featuring a cast which included Maggie Dence, Nancye Hayes, Melissa Jaffer, Genevieve Lemon, Pat McDonald and Nicole Kidman making her professional stage debut. The 2026 Australian tour cast will be announced in coming months.

Bursting with sass, warmth and Southern charm, STEEL MAGNOLIAS delivers laughter, love and unforgettable heart.
One misfit US Marine is dead, two others stand accused of killing him, and the whole corps is on trial as a team of young military lawyers uncover a sinister conspiracy in this gripping judicial thriller.
