THIEVERY CORPORATION established a unique and hypnotic aural trademark that would go on to influence a generation of producers and DJ’s to follow suit. Formed by New York DJ/musician James Murphy back in 2002, the dancefloor icons will perform two unmissable headline shows this winter: Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Monday 24 July, followed by Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on Wednesday 26 July. These shows will mark LCD Soundsystem’s first visit since reuniting in 2016, Murphy promising fans a new album is on the way. The band made their comeback last year with headline slots at the world’s biggest festivals, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo and Primavera. (LCD will play the closing night of 2017’s Splendour In The Grass.)

“It was definitely not supposed to be my life,” the singer joked to triple j about LCD’s early days (listen here), when the band released a series of singles via DFA Records, the NYC label co-founded by Murphy. “It always seemed like we were free to really enjoy it because we weren’t expecting it to be our careers.” Buoyed by the attention grabbing, eight-minute ‘Losing My Edge’, LCD’s self-titled debut (2005) went on to earn two Grammy nominations and a Top 20 hit in Australia with ‘Daft Punk Is Playing at My House’.

2006’s one-track ‘45:33’ was brilliant, initially commissioned for Nike as a workout mix. That in turn influenced 2007’s acclaimed Sound Of Silver, Murphy’s hooks and self-effacing lyrics proving a unique combination. The record debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Album chart, and later crowned Album Of The Year by Drowned In Sound, Uncut and The Guardian, thanks to tracks ‘North American Scum’, ‘Us v Them’, ‘Someone Great’, the anti-gentrification ‘New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down’ (remember the Kermit video?), and ‘All My Friends’.

2010’s This Is Happening followed, with singles ‘Drunk Girls’ and ‘I Can Change’. Refusing to overstay their welcome, Murphy called time-out on the band 12 months later, culminating in a legendary four-hour ‘farewell’ show at Madison Square Garden, captured on The Long Goodbye.

Then, in January 2016, fans were elated when the band announced they were headlining California’s Coachella. While the world eagerly awaits new music, there’s no mistaking the band’s legendary live power:

Support comes from unstoppable Long Beach MC Vince Staples who features as a special guest on the album for ‘ Smoke & Retribution’ and enigmatic UK producer SOPHIE. Both acts were highlights of the Laneway bill this year Vince with his excellent first album Summertime ’06 in tow, and SOPHIE on the back of his avantgarde electronic debut “Product”.

Flume’s last headline dates in Australia in 2013 included multiple Hordern Pavilion and Festival Hall shows and completely sold out. He headlined the 2016 Laneway Festival in February to rave reviews.

It will be a final celebration of his multi-platinum, chart-topping album Built on Glass. Chet completely sold out his entire 13-date tour earlier this year including a remarkable two Hordern Pavilions and five Palais Theatres. The ‘Built on Live’ Tour, the last time Chet will be on home soil in quite a while, is set to be just as popular.

Chet says:
“I’ve played over 200 shows since the album came out, and during that time the songs and the show itself has evolved so much further beyond the recordings.  This tour is a last chance to put everything I’ve learned over the last few years into practice and see the songs played in their full capacity before I put the album to rest.”

To round out the Built on Glass campaign, Chet today premiered a previously unreleased track ‘Bend’ on triple j.  Written during the Built on Glass recording period, Chet explains the track’s history:

“’Bend’ was on Built on Glass until the last minute. I recorded it in 2013 and kinda wanted to put it out since. It’s always felt like a part of Built on Glass and since this tour is the sort of live “director’s cut” of the album it made sense to release this before it lost context.”

Chet Faker took out five wins from nine nominations at the 2014 ARIA Awards including ‘Best Male Artist’, ‘Best Independent Release’, ‘Producer of the Year’, ‘Engineer of the Year’ (Eric J Dubowsky) and ‘Best Artwork’ (Tin&Ed) for his debut LP Built on Glass (Future Classic).  He also picked up the J Award for ‘Australian Album of the Year’, topped the station’s Hottest 100 with ’Talk Is Cheap’ and scored  the #1 spot on the listener-voted triple j Best of 2014 Top Ten Album poll, amongst an array of achievements.

Chet’s hard work internationally is paying off too.
