THUR 5 FEBRUARY – THE SECRET AGENT
The most awarded film at Cannes Film Festival and Winner of two Golden Globes, The Secret Agent is based in 1977 Brazil. When a technology expert flees from a mysterious past and returns to his hometown of Recife in search of peace. He soon realizes that the city is far from being the refuge he seeks.
PORTUGESE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

FRI 6 FEBRUARY – SENTIMENTAL VALUE
From Academy Award® nominee Joachim Trier, director of The Worst Person in the World. Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård), a once renowned director. The two sisters must navigate their complicated relationship with their father and deal with an American star (Elle Fanning).
NORWEGIAN & ENGLISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

SAT 7 FEBRUARY – NO OTHER CHOICE
Park Chan-wook, the legendary director of Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden and Oldboy, delivers another stylish and biting satire of contemporary capitalism. Man-su (Lee Byung-hun from Squid Game) thinks he has it all until he is abruptly laid off after 25 years of service. Out of desperation, he hits on a solution to find work: eliminate the competition.
KOREAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

SUN 8 FEBRUARY – NOUVELLE VAGUE – Dog Friendly Session
After writing for Cahiers du cinéma, a young Jean-Luc Godard decides making films is the best film criticism. He convinces producer Georges de Beauregard to fund a low-budget feature and creates a treatment with fellow New Wave filmmaker François Truffaut about a gangster couple. The result? Breathless, one of the first features of the Nouvelle Vague era of French cinema.

The multi-award-winning Volcano invites audiences into a voyeuristic journey played out across four performances full of surprise and intrigue.

A serialised live performance miniseries spanning four 45-minute episodes, Volcano crosses the boundaries of experimental theatre, contemporary dance and psychological sci-fi thriller.

Existing in a liminal space, a living room in disrepair, a room without a door, two characters recreate the greatest hits of old lives: a night at a rave, a favourite game show, an 80’s music-video, passing the time or quietly clinging to distant memories of a life out of reach. As the narrative unfolds the deeper precarity of their circumstances come to focus leading the audience through a fever dream of questions and upended assumptions.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

Acclaimed director and choreographer Luke Murphy blurs the lines of form and expectation, reality and fiction in live performance made for the Netflix era, part theatre, part television series, part dance.

Audiences will experience each episode of Volcano back-to-back with short transitions between stories. A thirty-minute interval will be held after the third episode, in which audiences are invited to leave the theatre, stretch their legs, grab a bite to eat, and get ready for the final episode.

A dinner package is available as an add-on and will be served during intermission. Enjoy a meal in the break before seeing how this episodic series ends.

Australasian Dance Collective’s THREE returns in 2024 with a new triple bill showcasing three bold choreographic voices in a nexus of sound and performance. THREE will be presented as part of Brisbane Powerhouse’s OHM Festival from 20 to 23 March.

This year’s instalment of THREE features world-premieres from award-winning choreographer, Jenni Large, and leading multidisciplinary artist, Alisdair Macindoe, as well as an incredible solo work by independent dance maker, Amber McCartney.

In her first commission for ADC, acclaimed choreographer, Jenni Large, will be joined by long- time collaborator, Anna Whitaker, a composer with a palate for experimental, acousmatic works. Large’s work is described as a fusion of the personal, political, and transformational forces of embodiment.

One of Australia’s most exciting talents, Alisdair Macindoe, returns with a new commission and composition. Macindoe’s work spans performance and technology and his recent works explore themes such as automated dance, Artificial Intelligence, waste, climate change, and identity in the age of narcissism.

Brisbane will finally have the chance to see Amber McCartney’s highly acclaimed and provocative solo work, Tiny Infinite Deaths. Set to a pulsing, experimental soundtrack by Makeda Zucco, the work premiered at Melbourne’s RISING in 2023 to rave reviews. McCartney’s practice incorporates prosthetics, mask-making, film and practical special effects to create augmented bodies, unfamiliar to both performer and viewer.

The triple-bill will showcase the stunning versatility of the ADC dancers, with beloved Associate Company Artist, Tyrel Dulvarie, returning for the season.

ADC Artistic Director Amy Hollingsworth says she cannot wait to share this new collection of exceptional works with audiences.

“The curated THREE program gives audiences three unique offerings and personifies ADC’s commitment to presenting new and invigorating dance works,” said Hollingsworth

“The breadth of the triple bill featuring extraordinary Australian choreographers will not only showcase the range and versatility of the Collective’s dancers but will delight audiences.

“We all respond to art in different ways, and the gift of a varied program such as this, is that there really is something for everyone – from moments of awe and intrigue to introspection and joy.” she said

ADC’s THREE provides a platform for creative risk-taking, elevating a myriad of voices to produce new and invigorating art. Heralded as an experience which will “remind you what it feels like to be human – to be alive”, THREE 2024 is set to be just as extraordinary.
