The Queensland Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing the best of contemporary international cinema in all its forms. From July 13 to 23, the 2017 Queensland Film Festival presents Brisbane with a stimulating series of intoxicating movie masterpieces and thoughtful discussion panels. At QFF, Queensland cinephiles can experience the best of contemporary international filmmaking.

The festiva’s main venue is New Farm Cinemas with screenings taking place at GoMA, IMA, QUT, and Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre where indicated.

The last time the duo were in the country they played two sold-out shows in Sydney and Melbourne, as well as massive festival slots at Falls, Southbound and Field day, with many hailing the psychedelic folk act as ‘stand outs’ of the 2014 festival circuit. With the Sydney Morning Herald posing the question, “How do you know a hit? When everyone at the festival stops what they’re doing and sprints towards the music.” When their song ‘Stolen Dance’ hit the Valley stage in Byron, thousands of punters ran to join in the mass revelry, including the biggest line dance ever performed! It was a magic moment and one of the highlights of the festival.

After two years of solid touring including playing some of the worlds biggest festivals the German duo emerged late last year with ‘Cocoon’, signaling to their fans the arrival of a new album. The single has just achieved Gold-status in Australia, while on Spotify the track quickly amassed over 19 million plays and counting. The video has stirred up 4 million-plus YouTube/VEVO views with its gentle and seamless fusion of electronic vibes and folky singer-songwriter flourishes.

One of the most influential and important bands over the last 30 years, Pixies headlined 2007’s inaugural Australian V Festival and in 2010 played an incredible 13 shows on their sold-out Doolittle tour across the country.

Touring the east coast in celebration of their forthcoming album, Head Carrier, the tour sees vocalist/guitarist Black Francis, drummer David Lovering and guitarist Joey Santiago welcome bassist Paz Lenchatin to the Pixies’ permanent line-up.

Lenchantin has been the band’s touring bassist since January 2014, and played an integral part in the recording of Head Carrier (out September 30 through Pixiesmusic/Play It Again Sam). Her cool and dreamy soprano can be heard singing lead on the track ‘All I Think About Now’.

Garrett Kato is a Canadian born musician and songwriter who has lived in Byron Bay, with his Australian partner and daughter, for the last four years. In 2015 Kato released his second LP That Low and Lonesome Sound, with Rolling Stone Australia praising the album as a “Gentile gem rich with songwriting nous and emotion leaking from every pore”. Kato has toured extensively throughout Australia including a 33 date sold-out tour supporting Pete Murray and a recent headline national tour.  Kato’s single ‘Sweet Jane’ was recently featured in the Hollywood Motion Picture Bad Moms and has racked up over 1 million Spotify streams since the film’s release.

And for a special treat for Ballarat locals Ziggy Alberts will be joining the bill for a one-off support slot. Ziggy is a coastal folk singer/songwriter, free surfer & environmental enthusiast from the East Coast of Australia. Now touring nationally and internationally with headline shows, accompanied by performances at Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass (2014, 2015, 2016) and PIKNIK (Norway, 2015). Ziggy has released an impressive 3 records, reaching 11 million Spotify plays, 56 thousand followers on Instagram and consistently appears in the top 10 ‘Singer/Songwriter’ charts on iTunes. Highly anticipated following his hit single ‘Runaway’, Ziggy’s latest record Four Feet In The Forest went to no. 1 in the singer songwriter charts and proves to be a favourite compilation by many of his listeners.

Both Bernard and Kasey will also be playing at this year’s 45th annual Country Music Awards of Australia – the Toyota Golden Guitar Awards.

With a sold out national tour behind him, Bernard was honoured to receive an ARIA late last year, taking home the Best Adult Contempory Album award, for his third solo record Civil Dusk (Dew Process / UMA), part one of a two part project (the second LP Brutal Dawn is due 2017).  While Kasey’s August EP release, Ain’t No Little Girl gave fans a taste of her eleventh studio LP, Dragonfly, a double album that sees her collaborating with Australian music legend Paul Kelly in the producer’s chair for one session, and Nash Chambers producing the other. Dragonfly is now available via Warner Music.

Santana previously toured Australia in 2011, including a one-off show in the Hunter Valley with The Doobie Brothers, returning in 2013 for national shows with The Steve Miller Band. The music legend this time returns to our shores following the release of the wildly anticipated Santana IV record, featuring the original late-1960’s lineup reunited for the first time in 45 years.

The mighty Doobie Brothers will join Santana as Special Guests on the Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney dates, adding to both artist’s already announced appearances on the mammoth bill for the 28th Annual Bluesfest in Byron Bay.
