Tyne-James Organ will also be embarking on an east coast tour supporting the single release of ‘In My Arms’, playing all ages shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this December. He’ll be supported by fellow singer-songwriters Dylan Joel and James Crooks.

‘In My Arms’ perfectly captures Tyne-James’ undeniable knack for crafting a perfect acoustic pop song. And while his earthy acoustic guitar playing, brilliant lyricism and passionate vocals remain at the forefront, the song is the sound of an artist stepping into the big leagues, with a huge studio production sound courtesy of producer Jean Paul Fung (Last Dinosaurs, Papa vs Pretty, Art vs Science).

The video for ‘In My Arms’ premiered on the influential Pilerats site, who said, “it’s pretty obvious that Organ is just getting started, and In My Arms is a powerful first step.”

Although ‘In My Arms’ stands as Tyne-James official debut release, the 21-year-old has already steadily built a loyal following in recent years with his faithful yet creative Youtube covers of popular hits, including the much-celebrated version of Childish Gambino’s ‘Sober’ he performed alongside friend and collaborator Allday.

His charming talents have also seen him land major support slots for an artist so early in his career, including opening for Allday on his most recent national tour, as well as other big local industry acts like The Beautiful Girls and international acts like Lewis Watson.

Having sold out his debut Australian headline tour earlier in 2016, Tyne-James is fresh out of the studio with Jean Paul Fung, where they’ve been busily preparing his debut EP, which is set for release in 2017.

‘In My Arms’ is the first taste of what we can expect from that EP and one of the most promising new artists to emerge in Australian music in 2016.

This November and December brings the debut Australian tour of Son Little – his wonderfully diverse sound will tour to intimate venues across the country.

Off the back of a successful North American tour and a huge run of shows supporting Leon Bridges, Son Little will be performing in support of his self-titled debut album which he released in October 2015. The record is, in its purest form, quintessentially American music, described by Rhythms Magazine as “a striking gust of fresh air with one foot in the past, the other striding bravely into the future“.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-9550766590923202" data-ad-slot="4069408586" data-ad-format="link"></ins>//

“Livingston’s voice is captivating, somehow finding common ground between growling holler and sweet croon, an emotional device as much as a musical instrument” proclaimed RollingStone Australia when describing Son Little (AKA Aaron Livingston), while The New York Times said of his live show, “The music had roots, but wasn’t looking back.”

Born to a preacher and a teacher in Los Angeles, where he learned how to listen and how to play before moving east to New York and New Jersey. Son Little dropped in and out of schools and scenes in Manhattan and then Philadelphia, where he collaborated with both The Roots and RJD2. The songs on Son Little draw inspiration from the diaspora of American music to create something both familiar, recalling the warm vinyl of a beloved classic, while sonically rooted – with it’s staccato beats, echoing guitars and rumbling bass.

Supported by Caiti Baker in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Darwin, Son Little will also be appearing at Queenscliff Music Festival, Fairgrounds & Disconnect.

“Son Little’s self-titled debut album is nu-soul, not neo-soul, and the distinction is drastic. Little doesn’t strive to reproduce his influences; he recombines them into something new.” – NPR

“A potent collection of soulful new Americana” – Noisey

“Son Little’s soulful debut long player traverses American roots music, from the north to the deep south. Vintage tracks are regularly peppered with drum machines, synths and effects, weaving seamlessly the old moody and brooding blues with modern indie R&B – SMH

Now in its 13th year, The Russian Resurrection Film Festival will showcase a range of films synonymous with Russian Resurrection, the largest Festival of Russian Cinema outside of Russia today.

The growth of the festival has been quite extraordinary. Since its beginnings in 2003, when it was a small festival for the Russian community, the Russian Resurrection Film Festival has grown rapidly, tripling in size and geographic reach – covering Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and New Zealand. The festival has been expanding Russian cinema and culture Australia-wide to become one of the oldest, largest and most respected Russian film festivals outside of Russia.

This year the festival has no shortage of highlights! There are two huge blockbusters: Flight Crew – the number one film at the 2016 Russian Box Office, and Icebreaker, an action adventure tale based on real events, and featuring at Brisbane’s opening night ahead of its Russian release! Other standouts include the winner of this year’s audience award at Sochi Open Russian Film Festival – the delightful comedy, The Good Boy and recent Cannes Film Festival hit, The Student, from director Kirill Serebrennikov that won the François Chalais Award for its dedication to the values of life affirmation and of journalism.

The program will screen from November 2 to November 9 at Event Cinemas Myer Centre and debuts the very best cinema Eastern Europe has to offer. Tickets are now on sale! Get social and share the word – #RRFF2016.

For more information on the festival click here www.russianresurrection.com

Films not to miss:

Flight Crew (2016)
Экипаж

GENRE: Action-Adventure
DURATION: 124mins
DIRECTOR: Nikolai Lebedev
CAST: Danila Kozlovsky, Vladimir Mashkov, Agne Grudyte, Katerina Shpitsa, Sergey Kempo

A remake of the 1979 Russian blockbuster disaster movie, Flight Crew was the number one film at the 2016 Russian Box Office and sits inside the top six for all-time money-earners. During a flight to Asia the crew on board a passenger jet receives a message about an earthquake and makes the call to go to the epicenter of the disaster and evacuate the stranded people before the volcano erupts. A dangerous rescue mission ensues where working together is the crew’s only chance for survival. Flight Crew stars Russia’s biggest names in acting today – Danila Kozlovsky (Legend 17, Soulless 1 and 2) and Vladimir Mashkov (Kandahar, The Edge, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol).

Icebreaker (2016)
Ледокол

GENRE: Action
DURATION: 120mins
DIRECTOR: Nikolai Homeriki
CAST: Pyotr Fyodorov, Sergei Puskepalis, Anna Mikhalkova, Olga Filimonova, Alexander Yatsenko

Icebreaker is based on real events that took place in 1985. A huge iceberg stands in the way of icebreaker “Mikhail Gromov”. Avoiding collision, the ship nonetheless falls into an ice trap and is forced to drift near the coast of Antarctica. The crew of “Gromov” spent 133 days of polar night trying to find a way out of ice trap. The ominous silence and freezing temperatures create an eerie atmosphere that plunges audiences right into the middle of a lethal situation. Huge icebergs, little fuel and freezing temperatures mean that just one wrong decision will lead to a deadly end for the entire crew. From the makers of Metro (2013), this is a big budget disaster movie with an all-star cast. Viewers should strap themselves in tightly.

The Good Boy (2016)
Хороший мальчик

GENRE: Comedy
DURATION: 95mins
DIRECTOR: Oksana Karas
CAST: Semyon Treskunov, Konstantin Khabenskiy, Mikhail Efremov, Anastasia Bogatiryova
AWARDS

Winner of the Best Film and Audience’s Choice categories at the 2016 Kinotavr Film Festival, this playful romantic comedy looks at six adventure filled days of Kolya, a 16 year old schoolboy. In a whirlwind six days, he kisses the most popular girl in school, falls in love with his teacher, takes on the school bully and investigates a mysterious computer lab fire! Kolya must learn how to handle responsibility and do what is right, even if the adults don’t! This gem is packed with adventure and will be sure to keep audiences on their toes, for all the twists and turns young love brings.

Winner of the Best Film and Audience’s Choice categories at the 2016 Kinotavr Film Festival

The Student (2016)
УЧЕНИК

GENRE: Drama
DURATION: 119mins
DIRECTOR: Kirill Serebrennikov
CAST: Petr Skvortsov, Victoria Isakova, Julia Aug, Aleksandr Gorchilin, Aleksandra Revenko

Captivating audiences at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, was the latest offering from award-winning Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov. Veniamin, a teenager in the midst of a spiritualcrisis, has his entire life turned upside down by his own interpretation of the Bible and questions such as whether girls can go to swimming classes in bikinis, if sex education has a place in school and should the theory of evolution be taught as part of the Natural Sciences. Soon all the adults are overwhelmed by the certitudes of the youngster who swears only by Scripture. No one but Elena, his biology teacher, will challenge him on his own ground.

The Duelist (2016)
Дуэлиянт

GENRE: Drama-Thriller
DURATION: 120mins
DIRECTOR: Alexey Mizgirev
CAST: Pyotr Fyodorov, Vladimir Mashkov, Martin Wuttke, Julia Khlynina, Yuri Kolokolnikov Franziska Petri

Retired military officer, the dashing Yakovlev is an unbeatable gun-for-hire – a professional duellist. Set at a time when the nobility settled slights against honour by taking up swords or pistols against each other in highly regulated rituals. Negotiating the strict code of behaviour Yakovlev is a champion for the weak and unskilled, but only for the right price. But he harbors a dark secret; he is on the run for a crime he did not commit. This fugitive has revenge on his mind, but unexpectedly falls in love. However his new love is about to marry his nemesis, which ensures a tense fight between the two foes. This thrilling adventure is set in 1860 amongst the backdrop of Russia’s scenic 19th century capital with its glittering aristocratic high society. Starring renowned actors Fyodorov and Mashkov this is a handsome historical epic.

Having established herself as a commanding and complex vocalist and lyricist, the songs across TKAY channel a sense of defiance and attitude that could only be wielded by an artist blaring the kind of unique trail Maidza has already achieved in not only Australian hip hop but the Australian music industry as a whole. She brings a dance-ready yet reflective dynamic that endlessly warps genres and shows her affinity for everything from UK garage, grime, throwback hip-hop, and trap. Joining forces with producers like Salva (Young Thug, A$AP Ferg) and Dre Skull (Major Lazer, Snoop Dogg), Maidza continually pushes her music to the exciting edge of chaos but keeps it all grounded with her pop-perfect melodies and masterfully heavy grooves. Meanwhile her lyrics strike a rare balance of boldness and vulnerability that gives TKAY a potent emotional charge.

“The idea behind the album is that it’s like a soundtrack to a high school girl’s life,” explains Maidza, “It’s about feeling lost but then finding your way out. There are moments of confidence and moments of feeling lonely, but at the same time knowing that you don’t need anyone or anything to be strong.”

Nominated for Best International Act at the 2016 BET Awards, Maidza recently lent her vocals to Martin Solveig’s chart-climbing single, ‘Do It Right’ – highlighting the fact that she’s well on her to being an international break out star of the future.

Firebrand, ARIA-nominated, Melbourne rockers Kingswood are back in a big, big way, announcing their up and coming national club show tour throughout November, tickets for these up close and personal shows are on sale now.

The tour will take in nine shows across five states, including up close and personal capital city venues, as well as off the beaten track regional club shows, kicking off with a performance on Friday, November 4 at Chinchilla Event ‘Fusions on the Field’ in Queensland.

These shows offer fans a chance to see KINGSWOOD perform on stages not seen since the early days of their career where they’ll be premiering select material off their forthcoming sophomore album. The band’s most recent ‘Microscopic Wars’ album tour (March 2015) saw the band sell out iconic venues across the country, including Sydney’s Metro Theatre and the Forum Theatre in Melbourne and then went on to support Australian rock royalty AC/DC on the nine date Australian leg of their ‘Rock or Bust’ stadium tour in November 2015, alongside energetic Swedish rock stars, The Hives. These electrifying shows saw the band play to some of the biggest audiences of their career, playing to 80,000 seat venues like Sydney’s ANZ Stadium, to which the band’s vocalist/ Laska proudly accepted, “There isn’t really much one can say about touring with AC/DC, childhood dreams being realised generally results in a loss for words.”

Kingswood members Laska, Fergus Linacre and Justin Debrincat have spent the earlier part of 2016 bunkered down recording the follow-up to their 2014 debut, Microscopic Wars, at the legendary Nashville USA studios: Sound Emporium, owned by musical legend Johnny Cash’s producer Jack Clement – a studio that has recorded the albums of many of the greats, from Robert Plant and Cyndi Lauper, to the Alabama Shakes and Pharell.

The XIII Russian Resurrection Festival is here. Quality films and unforgettable opening night parties are synonymous with Russian Resurrection the largest Festival of Russian Cinema outside of Russia today!

The 2016 program features quality Russian cinema – old and new. The highlights include the recent Cannes Film Festival hit, The Student from director Kirill Serebrennikov. The wonderful examination of the fractures between love and ambition in Moscow Never Sleeps from the Irish Muscovite Johnny O’Reilly. There are two huge blockbusters: Flight Crew – the number one film at the 2016 Russian Box Office and Icebreaker – the eagerly awaited action adventure tale which is yet to be released in Russia! Alexei Mizgirevs’ historical thriller The Duelist features some of Russia’s biggest film stars and is another film that will premiere in Australia ahead of a domestic release. The winner of this year’s audience award at Kinotavr was the delightful comedy, The Good Boy – a playful romantic comedy about the mishaps of a mischievous 16 year-old. The comedies keep on rolling with No Borders, a must see almanac film from some of the most popular new directors about New Year’s Eve and love which is a theme that also fuels the hilarious Very Best Day. Then for something completely left-of-field see Australia’s Martin Dingle Wall in the romantic-comedy All that Jam. The literary heritage of Pushkin appears in the terrific horror-thriller Queen of Spades, which was the highest grossing local horror film in Russia. While Vera Storozheva’s latest feature, House for Rent, is a typically Chekhovian-style comic melodrama.

The retrospective films feature digitally demastered masterpieces about great leaders – Eisenstein’s Ivan the Terrible, and Alexander Nevsky, and Kozintsev’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic, King Lear. Uniting the old and the new and the constant, complex theme of love we have Shakhnazarov’s Love in the USSR.

For the first time in 2016, Australian film critics will select one film for the Terra Australis Award for Best New Russian Film, and we eagerly await their decision!

Let the Resurrection Continue!

Chicago’s blissfully unguarded, INTO IT. OVER IT. has announced his first ever Australian visit, with a run of intimate solo shows along the East Coast.

Into It. Over It. (IIOI) is the musical namesake of prolific indie rocker, Evan Weiss. For the past decade, the erudite and gregarious, Weiss has been relentlessly touring and writing. His emotive vocal, earnest lyrics, and prolific abilities have earned IIOI cult-rock hero status throughout North America and beyond. Though, it wasn’t until their second album, 2013’s Intersections, which caught the attention of notable outlets such as SPIN and Pitchfork, that IIOI rose to widespread prominence and saw them play, Lollapalooza, Riot Fest and Summerfest to name a few.

If you’ve ever been fortunate enough to catch IIOI live, you’d be able to attest to the fact that Weiss has the ability to connect with his crowd in a way, not too many frontmen are able to do these days. Delivering each track with just as much passion and precision as he does on record. Watch IIOI perform “Open Casket” live for Exclaim TV here.

IIOI will be joined by special guests, Jess Locke in Melbourne and Zzzounds in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. For those not so familiar, Zzzounds is the solo project of Dave Drayton (Milhouse, Between The Devil & The Deep, Pinch Hitters). Drayton has been steadily zeroing in on his bedroom project, Zzzounds producing pun heavy, self-satirical tracks with warmth and rebellion. While Melbourne’s Jess Locke has been building her reputation for understated, yet intense live shows. Drawing comparisons to Cat Power and Elliott Smith, Locke oscillates between simplicity and complexity.

Catch Into It. Over It. in Australia this September.

Musical phenomenon Darren Hart, aka Harts, has already had a huge year in 2016 and has now announced a national Tour.

Having released two massive singles in ‘Peculiar’ and ‘Power’, he’s been touring non-stop both locally and internationally, including a barnstorming UK and European tour, and a triumphant return to the hallowed Splendour In The Grass stage last month, playing a spectacular set backed by a horn section and driving fans wild with his captivating, on-stage showmanship.

All that hype and build-up has served as the perfect intro to Harts’ latest album, Smoke Fire Hope Desire – which is set for release September 16 via Dew Process/UMA. Recorded in Hart’s home studio in Melbourne, the LP is the culmination of the often labeled “one-man music-making machine”, (he writes everything, plays all the instruments, records and produces all his music single-handedly) spending the past few years developing his sound, both on the road and in the studio.

The record is the sound of an artist who has locked his musical identity and his voice into his sights. As Harts says, he’s allowed himself to be influenced by, “a lot of what I was seeing in the world around me – very current day issues, mixed with my own thoughts and challenges in my life.” The result is a record that seems destined to find success on both a local and a global level.

To support the release of the Smoke Fire Hope Desire, Harts will be embarking on a huge national headline tour, playing club shows in Newcastle, Sydney, Geelong, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Ballarat – starting September 16. Tickets are on sale now!
