Playing out in distinct chapters, Silent Zone does its best to add something interesting to a very overcrowded genre. It dispenses the zombie apocalypse chapter rather quickly with a montage of newsreel footage and talking heads discussing the impending doom. It then downshifts to the tale of its two main protagonists.
Cassius (Matt Devere) is the perfect Bear Grylls type for the coming apocalypse, all outfitted with weapons a plenty and great survival instincts. Earlier on he saves Abigail (Luca Papp) from her mother and younger brother after they turn into zombies. We then catch up with them a decade later as their survival skills are almost fully developed.
Cassius lives with casual cruelty and isolation quite easily while Abigail still yearns for the human connection. This causes problems as the story enters its survival chapter. Through circumstance, they team up with Roderick (Julian Krenn) and his pregnant partner played by Ágota Dunai. This impending birth has a dramatic effect on Cassius and Abigail.
The final chapter offers a glimmer of hope and highlights the two’s solid relationship, one born out of necessity but heavily influenced by a need for human contact. While not adding much to the lexicon of zombie movies, Silent Zone does offer some thrills amid a story of the strength of two people who rely on each other and overcome quite large odds.
Silent Zone is available to watch everywhere you rent or buy movies!
