Brisbane Writers Festival 2017

This year the Brisbane Writers Festival celebrates 55 years of bringing stimulating ideas, debate and discussion to Brisbane. First presented as the Warana Writers Convention in 1962, just six sessions were presented over one day. The BWF now present over 150 events, with more than 20,000 literary lovers descending onto the State Library of Queensland and QAGOMA site annually in September to hear from their favourite authors.

New for Festival audiences in 2017 is a live literature experience, bringing to life Alexis Wright’s seminal novel Carpentaria through a large-scale interpretive artwork by Gordon Hookey. Audiences will be immersed in the world of Carpentaria through a program of performance, storytelling and talks exploring Indigenous art, history and culture.

From 6-10 September this year, BWF will be exploring how writers curate the fictional and real worlds we enter through the voices and stories of 16 international guest authors, 49 Australian writers and a large contingent of Queensland authors.

So join the Brisbane Writers Festival, as they celebrate 55 years of reading, writing and ideas!
